  • Publication number: 20060266521
Abstract: A method for accessing a subterranean zone includes forming a subterranean cavity coupled to a land surface and forming a plurality of substantially horizontal bores extending at least partially into the subterranean zone and intersecting the cavity.
    Type: Application
    Filed: May 31, 2005
    Publication date: November 30, 2006
    Inventors: Christopher Pratt, Douglas Seams
  • Publication number: 20060201715
Abstract: A system and method for drilling a substantially horizontal well bore in a normally to sub-normally pressured formation. The normally to sub-normally pressured formation is an unconventional reservoir. The well bore is drilled over-balanced with a drilling fluid including a fluid loss agent. The fluid loss agent is operable to form a filter cake on the well bore during drilling.
    Type: Application
    Filed: May 31, 2005
    Publication date: September 14, 2006
    Inventors: Douglas Seams, Christopher Pratt
  • Publication number: 20060201714
Abstract: A system and method for drilling a substantially horizontal well bore in a normally to sub-normally pressured formation. The normally to sub-normally pressured formation is an unconventional reservoir. The well bore is drilled over-balanced with a drilling fluid having a density at least about the density of the cuttings produced by drilling the well bore.
    Type: Application
    Filed: May 31, 2005
    Publication date: September 14, 2006
    Inventors: Douglas Seams, Christopher Pratt
  • Publication number: 20060131025
Abstract: A method for producing a reservoir includes drilling a well into a boundary layer that is hydraulically connected to the reservoir. Reservoir fluid migration from the reservoir to the boundary layer is accelerated and the reservoir fluid is produced through the well.
    Type: Application
    Filed: December 22, 2004
    Publication date: June 22, 2006
    Inventor: Douglas Seams
  • Publication number: 20050183859
Abstract: A method and system for enhancing permeability of a subterranean zone at a horizontal well bore includes determining a drilling profile for the horizontal well bore. At least one characteristic of the drilling profile is selected to aid in stabilizing the horizontal well bore during drilling. A liner is inserted into the horizontal well bore. The well bore is collapsed to increase permeability of the subterranean zone at the horizontal well bore.
    Type: Application
    Filed: January 14, 2005
    Publication date: August 25, 2005
    Inventor: Douglas Seams
  • Publication number: 20050109505
Abstract: A method for stimulating production of resources from a coal seam includes forming a drainage well bore in the coal bed that has a first end coupled to a ground surface and a second end in the coal seam. The method further includes inserting a liner into the well bore. The liner has a wall including a number of apertures and a second diameter that is smaller than the first diameter of the drainage well bore such that a gap is formed between the wall of the liner and the well bore. The method also includes collapsing the drainage well bore around the liner to relieve stress in the coal seam proximate to the liner.
