Publication number: 20240392702Abstract: A geothermal power system includes a power generation unit and at least one production well coupled to the power generation unit. The at least one production well is positioned at least partially within a geothermal reservoir. The production well includes at least one wellbore with a wellbore wall. A first tubing is positioned within the at least one wellbore and defines a first annular flow path through the first tubing. A second tubing is positioned around the first tubing and defines a second annular flow path between the first tubing and the second tubing. A third annular flow path is between the second tubing and the wellbore wall. A production fluid may flow in the same direction as a working fluid through the production well. The working fluid is used to generate electricity with the power generation unit. The working fluid may be a liquid, gas, or supercritical fluid.Type: ApplicationFiled: September 26, 2022Publication date: November 28, 2024Inventors: Lev M. RING, Douglas SIMPKINS, Robert Lance COOK

Publication number: 20240360817Abstract: A geopressure and geothermal power system includes at least one pressure exchanger configured to receive a production fluid and a working fluid. At least one power generation unit is fluidly coupled to the pressure exchanger. At least one production well is positioned at least partially within a geothermal reservoir and provides the production fluid to the pressure exchanger. The system may also include at least one heat exchanger fluidly coupled to the at least one pressure exchanger and configured to one of, a) receive from and b) provide to, the at least one pressure exchanger the production fluid and the working fluid.Type: ApplicationFiled: July 12, 2024Publication date: October 31, 2024Inventors: Nathan WEISS, Douglas SIMPKINS, Lev M. RING, Robert Lance COOK

Patent number: 7657414Abstract: A visualization system for wellbore and drillstring data includes a graphics processor for creating a wire mesh model of a well and drillstring based on datasets of depth-varying parameters of the well. A graphics system maps appropriate textures to the wire mesh models, which are then displayed on a graphics display. A user interface facilitates user navigation along the length of the well to any selected location therein, and further permits user adjustment of orientation of the displayed renderings. The data is sufficient to permit calculation of fluid velocity in the wellbore at any selected location. The fluid velocity is presented as a velocity profile in the rendered visualization of the wellbore and drillstring to provide the user with a visual indication of fluid velocity in the wellbore as the user navigates the visualization along the length of the wellbore and drillstring.Type: GrantFiled: February 23, 2005Date of Patent: February 2, 2010Assignee: M-I L.L.C.Inventors: Mario Zamora, Douglas Simpkins

Patent number: 7603264Abstract: A visualization system for a wellbore environment includes a graphics processor for creating a wire mesh model of a well and optionally a drillstring based on datasets of depth-varying parameters of the well. A graphics system maps appropriate textures to the wire mesh models, which are then displayed on a graphics display. A user interface facilitates user navigation along the length of the well to any selected location therein, and further permits user adjustment of orientation of the displayed renderings. Simulated, real or a combination of simulated and real wellbore data may be visually depicted in the wellbore at any selected location. This provides the user with a visual indication of the wellbore environment as the user navigates the visualization along the length of the wellbore.Type: GrantFiled: March 16, 2005Date of Patent: October 13, 2009Assignee: M-I L.L.C.Inventors: Mario Zamora, Douglas Simpkins

Patent number: 7596481Abstract: A visualization system for a wellbore environment includes a graphics processor for creating a computer rendered visual model of a well, and optionally a drill string, based on data sets of depth-varying and/or time-varying parameters of the well. The model is then displayed on a graphics display. A user interface facilitates user navigation along the length of the well to any selected region therein, and further permits user adjustment of orientation of the displayed renderings as well as a temporal selection of the time-varying data to be displayed. Simulated, real, or a combination of simulated and real wellbore data, which may be steady state, transient, or real-time data, may be visually depicted at any selected region. This provides the user with a visual indication of the wellbore environment as the user navigates the visualization spatially and temporally.Type: GrantFiled: June 23, 2006Date of Patent: September 29, 2009Assignee: M-I L.L.C.Inventors: Mario Zamora, Douglas Simpkins
