    Abstract: Radially layered copoly-dendrimers having unusual surface properties and novel applications have been synthesized and characterized. These are the first copolymeric dendrimers composed of a hydrophilic poly(amidoamine) (PAMAM) interior with hydrophobic organosilicon surfaces. These dendrimers have been prepared by surface modifications of an ethylene diamine core PAMAM dendrimer with (3-acryloxypropyl)methyldimethoxysilane, (3-acryloxypropyl)bis(vinyldimethylsiloxy)methylsilane, (3-acryloxypropyl)tris(trimethylsiloxy)silane, chloromethyltrimethylsilane, and chloromethyldimethylvinylsilane, to varying degrees of surface coverage. The obtained products were characterized by .sup.1 H, .sup.13 C, and .sup.29 Si NMR, and by DSC and TGA. The dendrimers with less completely covered organosilicon surfaces are water soluble, and have considerable surface activity, the best of which lowered the surface tension of water to less than 30 mN/m.

A broadband disturbance signal detector positioned within a closed compartment such as an aircraft cabin or vehicle passenger compartment provides a signal representative of the frequency spectrum and corresponding relative magnitude of a broadband signal emanating from a vibrational energy source to a controller. The controller receives the broadband disturbance signal as well as error signals from error sensors which, by virtue of adaptive filters within the controller, enhance the cancellation capability of the control signals produced by one or more actuators positioned within the compartment.

    Abstract: An active isolator with a closed-loop feedback control system which uses an actuator in parallel spring relation to a static load spring to control the dynamic vibration transmitted from a vibrating device over a broad band frequency range. A collocated sensor is installed to sense the vibration of the isolated element and is amplified and fed, filtered and amplified again, reversed in sign and fed directly into the actuator. No external synchronizing signal or processor is needed. This simple active control is practical only where the combined series dynamic stiffness of the structure and vibrating body is much less than or much greater than the active mount's dynamic stiffness.
