Publication number: 20240106680Abstract: Methods, systems, and apparatus, including computer programs encoded on a computer storage medium, for communication resilience in a Ring Network Topology. In some aspects, a top Ethernet node, implemented in a Ring Network Topology (“RNT”) that includes multiple additional Ethernet nodes, receives downstream traffic having a virtual local area network (“VLAN”) service address. The top Ethernet node can determine that the downstream traffic is destined for a given device serviced by a given Ethernet node, from among the multiple additional Ethernet nodes, that terminates a given Ethernet Ring Protection Switching (“ELPS”) group. The top Ethernet node can determine a given VLAN subnetwork that has been mapped to the given ELPS group, and transmit the downstream traffic through the RNT using the given VLAN subnetwork.Type: ApplicationFiled: September 28, 2022Publication date: March 28, 2024Inventors: Andrew T. Ruble, Douglas T. Albright, Darrin Leroy Gieger, Stefan Diener, Frank Below

Patent number: 10601771Abstract: Methods, systems, and apparatus for configuring a network device are disclosed. In one aspect, a network address that is assigned to the network device by a network address server is detected by an equipment configuration device. The network address server differs from the network device. In response to detecting the network address, a set of connection parameters that connect the network device to a controller device is transmitted by the equipment configuration device and to the network device. The set of connection parameters is transmitted outside of communications, transmitted by the network address server, that assigned the network address to the network device.Type: GrantFiled: November 22, 2017Date of Patent: March 24, 2020Assignee: ADTRAN, Inc.Inventors: Douglas T. Albright, Neil Jensen, Jack Atkinson, Chip Boling

Patent number: 9189636Abstract: An example system can comprise a memory to store machine readable instructions. The system can also comprise a processing unit to execute the machine readable instructions. The machine readable instructions can comprise a service layer to generate an office machine security policy for a heterogeneous fleet of office machines. The heterogeneous fleet of office machines can comprise two different office machines. The service layer can also generate a security configuration for each office machine of the office machine fleet. The security configuration for a given office machine of the heterogeneous fleet of office machines can comprise a security setting for the given office machine. The machine readable instructions can comprise can also comprise a device layer to translate the security configuration of the given office machine into security instructions that are executable by the given office machine.Type: GrantFiled: July 30, 2012Date of Patent: November 17, 2015Assignee: HEWLETT-PACKARD DEVELOPMENT COMPANY, L.P.Inventors: Matthew Lee Deter, Douglas T Albright, Kimberly G Drongesen, John K Gonsalves, John P. Borz, John Bigley, Kathleen M Takayama, Jeffrey H Soesbe, Daryl Wong

Patent number: 9021545Abstract: In one embodiment, a first instruction prescribing a setting for a feature is defined. A second instruction prescribing a first action is defined. A third instruction prescribing a second action is defined. It is determined whether the feature is present in a computing device, and if present, whether the feature is set to the setting. The first action is initiated if the feature is present and not set to the setting. The second action is initiated if the feature is not present.Type: GrantFiled: August 31, 2010Date of Patent: April 28, 2015Assignee: Hewlett-Packard Development Company, L.P.Inventors: Matthew Deter, Douglas T. Albright, Kimberly G. Drongesen, John K. Gonsalves, Daryl Wong, Shivaun Albright

Publication number: 20140063531Abstract: An imaging or printing device has a storage medium storing a hostname of a configuration server and sends a DNS request for the hostname to a DNS server. After receiving an IP address corresponding to the configuration server from the DNS server, the printing or imaging device uses the IP address to contact the configuration server and receives configuration settings from the configuration server.Type: ApplicationFiled: August 29, 2012Publication date: March 6, 2014Inventors: Matthew Lee Deter, John Borz, Douglas T. Albright, Shivaun Albright, Daryl Wong

Patent number: 7152100Abstract: A system for provisioning a network access device based on control settings received from a remote location utilizes logic and memory for storing a set of operational control settings and a set of default control settings for the network access device. The logic is configured to store, in the memory, the operational control settings based on data received from a remote device via a network. The logic is configured to control the network access device based on the operational control settings and to begin controlling the network access device based on the default control settings in lieu of the operational control settings in response to a determination that the network access device is unable to communicate over the network based on the operational control settings, thereby enabling the network access device to be remotely re-provisioned.Type: GrantFiled: July 9, 2002Date of Patent: December 19, 2006Assignee: Adtran, Inc.Inventors: H. Keith Thomas, Douglas T. Albright
