Publication number: 20130088152Abstract: Improved lighting fixtures are described each of which having its own dimming or intensity control capability that allows for providing the desired lighting output or luminous flux, at each of the fixtures. This capability can be embodied in a dimming device at each fixture that can be manually or wirelessly operated. The present invention is particularly applicable to low voltage landscape or architectural lighting systems, and allows for customizing of the system to meet the particular application. The present invention also allows for tuning of the output for each fixture to compensate for variations in emission.Type: ApplicationFiled: March 30, 2012Publication date: April 11, 2013Inventor: DOUGLAS W. Patent number: 7699489Abstract: An in-grade light fixture comprises a light fixture housing arranged to be buried substantially below grade level. The light fixture housing has a light opening substantially at grade level and an optical chamber having a light source arranged within the optical chamber and the optical chamber arranged within the housing with light from the light source passing through the light opening. The fixture further comprises a plurality of housing openings and one or more enclosures, each of which is removably mounted to a respective one of the housing openings. The enclosures accept external power and generate power to energize the light source causing it to emit light. The optical chamber can also comprise an anti-condensation valve and an air passageway between the optical chamber and one of the enclosures form a vacuum in the optical chamber and vacuum during operation.Type: GrantFiled: March 31, 2006Date of Patent: April 20, 2010Inventor: Douglas W. Patent number: 7370988Abstract: A hydrological barrier plate for in-grade light fixture housings and a housing for use with light fixtures to prevent water entry into the water sensitive compartments of the light fixture. The barrier plate has a plate body with an opening in which is sealably disposed an anti-syphon wire pass-through valve for electrically connecting the components on one side of the barrier plate with the wires in the junction box on the opposite side of the barrier plate. The barrier plate is sealed around its outer edge against the housing wall. The pass-through valve is configured to prevent water from wicking along the wires and to prevent water from passing around the valve. The barrier plate is installed without tools and an effective seal is easily obtained. Using the barrier plate, water is prevented from migrating between the junction box and the primary housing compartments of the housing.Type: GrantFiled: September 2, 2005Date of Patent: May 13, 2008Assignee: B-K Lighting, Inc.Inventor: Douglas W. Hagen

Patent number: 7249867Abstract: A lighting fixture assembly includes a housing assembly that forms an interior. A valve mechanism is associated with the housing assembly and is configured to automatically vent fluid from the interior to the atmosphere when the pressure in the interior exceeds a threshold level. Otherwise, the valve mechanism seals the interior from the atmosphere. The lighting fixture also includes a pressure-equalization mechanism, separate from the valve mechanism, which is also associated with the housing assembly. The pressure-equalization mechanism is configured to, upon activation, substantially equalize the interior pressure with the atmosphere pressure and to otherwise seal the interior from the atmosphere.Type: GrantFiled: June 10, 2005Date of Patent: July 31, 2007Assignee: Coarsegold Consulting, Inc.Inventors: Douglas W. Hagen, Allen Alexander

Patent number: 7175297Abstract: An in-grade light fixture, comprising a below grade light fixture having a light opening substantially at grade level. An optical chamber is arranged within the light fixture housing and holding a light source generating light that passes through the light opening. A faceplate mechanism mounted over the light opening and to the optical chamber, and is held in place by mounting screws. The faceplate mechanism is at least partially rotatable over the light opening so that the location of said mounting screws can be adjusted around the light opening. An adjustment mechanism is included to adjust the height and angle of the faceplate mechanism to match the height and angle of the surrounding grade level and angle. A holding mechanism can also be included for holding the light fixture housing at the desired height within a hole prior to being buried. An anti-condensation valve can also be included on the optical chamber.Type: GrantFiled: March 12, 2004Date of Patent: February 13, 2007Assignee: B-K Lighting, Inc.Inventor: Douglas W. Hagen

Patent number: 6161948Abstract: An adjustable mount for use with light fixtures that are sealed to prevent entry of moisture and contaminants. O-ring seals are utilized to connect and seal the components of the adjustable mount so that it is not a source of moisture or loss of vacuum. The adjustable mount is a knuckle-type mount that connects a light fixture with a junction box or other source of electrical power. The adjustable mount provides a full range of vertical and rotational angles without damaging the electrical wiring that is sealed inside the mount. Frictional connections in the mount allow the lighting angle to be set without the necessity of tightening the set screws which connect the components together.Type: GrantFiled: May 26, 1999Date of Patent: December 19, 2000Assignee: B-K Lighting, Inc.Inventor: Douglas W.
