  • Patent number: 6886481
Abstract: A pivotable deployable bulb mounted foil apparatus for a sailboat can pivot a foil mounted within a keel bulb remotely as needed to provide lateral resistance for the sailboat. The foil or foils can be rotated between a nested position for greater speed when the foils are not needed for lateral resistance in the water to an extended or operative position when needed for lateral resistance. The pivotal bulb mounted foil is especially adapted for use with a canting keel where the sailboat loses its lateral resistance from the keel when the keel is canted.

  • Patent number: 5555836
Abstract: A sailing vessel includes a hull having a mast supported thereon in a vertical direction from the hull and a spinnaker pole support mounted to the hull forward of the mast. A pair of spinnaker poles are movably attached to the spinnaker pole support with each spinnaker pole having fully open and retracted positions and being spring biased towards an open position. Each spinnaker pole can be retracted against the spring bias from an open to a closed position and supported in any position therebetween. A spinnaker sail is attached between the mast and the pair of spinnaker poles so that the spinnaker can be trimmed, jibed or headed up to a beam reach with a pair of spinnaker poles. A pair of cords attached to the spinnaker pole allows for the remote control of the spinnaker poles relative to the spinnaker pole support.

  • Patent number: 5015187
Abstract: A remote controlled helicoper having a video radio frequency link to a fixed control location has a video camera with a field of view including the terrain forward of the helicopter, an airspeed display, a relative wind direction indicator, and a pitch indicator. A video monitor at the fixed location displays received video signals of the terrain, airspeed, relative wind direction and pitch permitting control of the helicopter over a radio link from the fixed location to the helicopter. The system provides training, experience, and practice in operation of the helicopter.

  • Patent number: 4437424
Abstract: A wind propelled boat of the sailboard type, in which a generally cone-shaped sail mounting member is secured on an upper part of the boat, on the centerline of the boat. A portion of the cone-shaped member is designed to receive the base of the mast of the boat, such that the mast will be movable only for a limited angular extent in the cone-shaped member. Preferably, a mast step tube is utilized in the cone-shaped member, with the base of the mast received in the mast step tube. The mast or mast step tube is secured in the apex of the cone-shaped member, with the arrangement permitting a swivel type motion, with angular deflections of the mast being effectively limited by the cone-shaped member. Preferably, the mast securing arrangement also permits rotation of the mast such that the sail can be reefed.
