Publication number: 20130297025Abstract: A flexible prosthetic cover shaped to form a replacement nucleus pulposis for an intervetebral disc with an aperture for the introduction of filling material therein, and an elongate introducer member configured to pass into the aperture is provided. The cover has a strengthened portion substantially opposite the aperture for engaging the distal end of the member, the strengthened portion and the distal end being arranged to interlock, for facilitating orientation of the cover, for example so as to prevent relative rotation there between.Type: ApplicationFiled: July 11, 2013Publication date: November 7, 2013Inventor: Douglas Wardlaw

Publication number: 20130237892Abstract: A fracture brace for the treatment of limbs with bone fractures has a first portion comprising a rigid shell having at least two load areas for contact with the limb; a second portion comprising at least one load area for contact with the limb; and a strap adapted to encircle the first and second portions. The first portion has a resilient material attached to the radially outer part of the shell, and the strap overlies and compresses the resilient material so that the fracture brace exerts pressure on the limb, so that the resilient material re-expands upon any decrease of swelling in the limb to maintain pressure on the limb. As the fracture swelling subsides, the resilient material reacts by partially returning towards its original shape, so that any slackening of the strap caused by the reduced swelling is taken up by the resilient material.Type: ApplicationFiled: March 22, 2011Publication date: September 12, 2013Applicant: Grampian Health BoardInventor: Douglas Wardlaw

Patent number: 7182742Abstract: An orthopaedic brace apparatus for the treatment of fractures is described. The brace comprises two portions (2,3) joined together by a strap (4). The first portion (2) comprises at least one preformed pad and the second portion (3) comprises at least two preformed pads (5, 6) joined together by resilient material (7). The resilient material is elastically deformable and the preformed pads are formed from a material that resists slippage such that the apparatus provides gentle compression on the fracture.Type: GrantFiled: December 18, 2000Date of Patent: February 27, 2007Assignee: Grampian Health BoardInventor: Douglas Wardlaw

Publication number: 20050065609Abstract: A flexible prosthetic cover (12) shaped to form a replacement nucleus pulposis for an intervetebral disc comprises an aperture for the introduction of filling material therein, and an elongate introducer member (28) configured to pass into the aperture. The cover has a strengthened portion (26) substantially opposite the aperture for engaging the distal end (42) of the member, the strenghtened portion and the said distal end being arranged to interlock, for facilitating orientation of the cove, for example so as to prevent relative rotation there between.Type: ApplicationFiled: November 19, 2002Publication date: March 24, 2005Inventor: Douglas Wardlaw

Patent number: 4796611Abstract: An orthopaedic brace for use in the treatment of fractures of a lower part of a limb such as the wrist or ankle is described. The brace comprises of two preformed portions, a first portion has two areas of high loading arranged distally and proximally on the portion and a second portion has one area of high loading at or near its center whereby the portions when fitted around a limb and fracture provide three point loading of the limb applied in two planes thereby maintaining the position of the fracture throughout the treatment period. In a preferred form the brace is used to treat Colles' fractures whereby the first portion fits on the dorsal/radial part of the arm and the second portion fits on the anterior/ulnar part of the arm, the two portions being held in place by means of straps attached to the first portion.Type: GrantFiled: July 29, 1987Date of Patent: January 10, 1989Inventor: Douglas Wardlaw
