Publication number: 20210306103Abstract: An audio system and method for retransmission of data packets between audio devices. The audio system includes a source device, a first audio device and a second audio device configured to receive an isochronous data stream from the source device. Each audio device is configured to eavesdrop or otherwise monitor the packets within the isochronous data stream meant for each of the audio devices and each audio device can retransmit packets from one audio device to the other in the event one audio device fails to receive a packet. The audio system is configured to operate in at least a partial retransmission mode or a total retransmission mode where the partial retransmission mode allows each audio device to selectably retransmit packets between audio devices and where the total retransmission mode requires one audio device to retransmit all packets to the other audio device.Type: ApplicationFiled: March 31, 2020Publication date: September 30, 2021Applicant: Bose CorporationInventors: Douglas Warren Young, Rasmus Abildgren, Casper Stork Bonde

Patent number: 11102655Abstract: Methods and systems for secure device action initiation using a remote device are described herein. The techniques described herein enable, among other actions, users to send a play chirp request to a lost or misplaced device, such as to one or both buds of a truly wireless earbud set. In the case of truly wireless earbuds, a shared secret known by both of the buds can be used to securely initiate the action over an unencrypted link (e.g., an unencrypted BLE link). This can be achieved by using the shared secret to sign an authentication challenge to prove that a remote device that also has access to the shared secret is authorized to initiate the action, thereby providing a secure process. In some implementations, the shared secret is an Identity Resolving Key (IRK), which may be randomly generated by the buds.Type: GrantFiled: March 31, 2020Date of Patent: August 24, 2021Assignee: Bose CorporationInventors: Douglas Warren Young, Niall Tone Kavanagh

Patent number: 11033107Abstract: A mounting apparatus for positioning a television relative to a wall and a fireplace mantle includes a mounting plate coupled to a distal end of a positioning arm and is moved and positioned according to movement of the positioning arm. The positioning arm has a linear configuration with a proximal end mounted inside a wall housing which is itself mounted into a wall above the mantle of a fireplace. The positioning arm is pivotally movable between a retracted configuration completely inside the wall housing and a deployed configuration outside and extending away from the wall housing sufficiently that the plate (and television attached to the plate) is forward of and then below the outwardly extending mantle. The mounting plate is operable to tilt outwardly so as to clear the mantle and to swivel side to side at the viewing discretion of a user.Type: GrantFiled: July 21, 2020Date of Patent: June 15, 2021Inventor: Francis Douglas Warren

Patent number: 10944555Abstract: A system and method for securely verifying a connection between a remote device and an audio device. The method includes establishing a wireless connection between the remote device and the audio device. The remote device has an application configured to control operation of the audio device. An identity resolving key (IRK) for the application is obtained with the remote device. The IRK is transmitted to the audio device via the wireless connection. An instruction to is transmitted the audio device to generate a random resolvable address for the application using the IRK and to broadcast data containing the random resolvable address. The data containing the random resolvable address is received by the application of the remote device. An active audio connection between the remote device and the audio device is identified if the random resolvable address is able to be resolved by the application using the IRK.Type: GrantFiled: May 17, 2018Date of Patent: March 9, 2021Assignee: Bose CorporationInventors: Douglas Warren Young, Prasanna Rao, Jim Lambert, Niall Tone Kavanagh, Matthew Jannace

Patent number: 10705793Abstract: A method is provided for exchanging data between a user device and an audio output device over a wireless link. A user device detects that a trigger event for initializing a low latency mode has occurred at the user device, the low latency mode configured to cause the audio output device to reduce a size of a render buffer to be used for rendering audio data. In response to the detecting, the user device transmits an indication to the audio output device to initialize the low latency mode, the indication causing the audio output device to reduce the size of the render buffer to be used for rendering the audio data. The user device then transmits the audio data to the audio output device over the wireless link.Type: GrantFiled: June 4, 2019Date of Patent: July 7, 2020Assignee: BOSE CORPORATIONInventor: Douglas Warren Young

Patent number: 10492594Abstract: A method provides a band, including: placing an energy harvesting mechanism within a deformable band; the energy harvesting mechanism being placed to transform deformation of the deformable band into stored energy; and providing a connection element to the energy harvesting mechanism; said connection element offering a coupling of the stored energy of the deformable band to a device. In an embodiment, a force is applied to deform a deformable band along a length dimension of the deformable band. The force acts to move an energy harvesting mechanism of the deformable band such that the energy harvesting mechanism transforms deformation of the deformable band into stored energy. The stored energy may be used, e.g., to collect information using a sensor of said deformable band. Other aspects are described and claimed.Type: GrantFiled: October 13, 2017Date of Patent: December 3, 2019Assignee: Lenovo (Singapore) Pte.
