  • Publication number: 20050057410
Abstract: A folded monopole antenna that supports lower and upper frequency bands may be used in CDMA, WLAN, or other wireless communications systems. The folded monopole antenna may be located in a handset next to a vertical ground plane. The folded monopole antenna may be folded at least twice and connected to the ground plane through a reactance. The dimensions of different sections of the folded monopole antenna define lower and upper frequency band characteristics, and an offset location of an input feed affects the bandwidth of the frequency bands. The reactance between the antenna and ground plane can be selected to fine tune the frequency bands. Various input feeds, including a co-planar waveguide, may be employed. Dynamically adjustable reactances may be used in the input feed and ground line for adapting the antenna to various environments.

  • Publication number: 20050033795
Abstract: Methods, systems, computer program products, and methods of doing business whereby managed resources and/or data are identified using a model based on object-oriented techniques. A resource hierarchy is defined for a set of resources/data to be managed, and naming rules are associated with classes in this hierarchy. The naming rules for a particular class describe how to uniquely identify resources of that class among more than one management system and in a way that is independent of the management system. The identities are structured strings created using the naming rules of the class to which the resource/data belongs. Structural restrictions placed on the structured strings allow any two identities to be compared for equality (using, for example, a simple string comparison).

  • Patent number: 6829326
Abstract: The invention relates to a method for imaging the head area by using a line detector camera (8) equipped with a digital detector, at which camera is directed an X-ray beam (11) through the object being imaged. In the method is used an apparatus (1) which makes possible the implementation of cephalometric imaging and at least one other imaging method, such as panoramic imaging. The apparatus comprises an X-ray source (5), a primary collimator (6) in conjunction with the X-ray source, a line detector camera (8), which is located to a position further away from the X-ray source (5) for implementing cephalometric imaging and/or to a position closer to the said X-ray source for the said other imaging method, and a secondary collimator (9) in the vicinity of the line detector camera (8) intended for cephalometric imaging.

  • Publication number: 20040040031
Abstract: A system and method for creating reusable management instrumentation for information technology (IT) resources is presented. Management instrumentation accesses a resource using an instrumentation library type (ILT) and an access path. The ILT in is a basic programming, model to access a resource, such as SQL and shell scripts. The ILT may be a resource specific ILT, a command ILT, or an object ILT. A resource specific ILT is used to access a specific resource. A command ILT is used in conjunction with an access path to access a particular resource. Management instrumentation re-uses command ILT's by selecting different access paths to combine with the command ILT to access different resources. An object ILT allows management instrumentation to communicate with object-based resource interfaces, such as with management beans. A translation table me be used in conjunction with an object ILT to allow the object ILT to communicate with the object-based resource interface.

  • Publication number: 20030124572
Abstract: Improved systems, system components, and methods for performing assays involving biological membranes and/or components thereof. Preferred luminescence test measurements are conducted using an assay module with integrated electrodes having biological membranes and/or components thereof immobilized thereon with a reader apparatus adapted to receive assay modules, induce luminescence, preferably electrode induced luminescence, in the wells or assay regions of the assay modules and measure the induced luminescence.

  • Publication number: 20030088597
Abstract: An information handling system comprising computer hardware and/or computer software for implementing a method for generating and mapping a string representation of a floating point number having a mantissa and an exponent is disclosed. The method involves the establishment of a pair of numeric strings and a decimal string. One of the numeric strings is indicative of a numerical sign of the mantissa and a numerical sign of the exponent. The other numeric string is indicative a numerical value of the exponent. The decimal string is indicative of a numerical value of the mantissa. The numeric strings and the decimal strings are arrayed to generate the string representation. A predefined attribute is utilized to map the string representation to a directory.

  • Patent number: 6327670
Abstract: A duplex controller with a pair of redundant processor circuits connected by an update bus for use in a system which requires high reliability. Each of the redundant processor circuits is individually capable of performing the tasks of the duplex controller, so that the controller remains operable when one of the processor circuit members fails. The update bus is connected so that when the active circuit member executes a write command, the write command is also effected at the standby circuit. In this manner the memory state of the standby is dynamically maintained so that when control of the duplex controller is transferred from the active to the standby to the standby circuit, the standby circuit is instantaneously ready with up to date information to assume all processing responsibilities of the duplex controller without unnecessary delay.

  • Patent number: 5671902
Abstract: A valve for permitting or precluding fluid communication between a fluid reservoir and a pipe. The inventive device includes a valve seat securable to a flange of the pipe. A support plate is adjustably positioned above the valve seat and mounts a fluid actuator thereover. A valve plate is coupled to the fluid actuator and can be axially moved relative to the valve seat to permit or preclude fluid transfer therethrough. The valve utilizes a pressure of the fluid within the reservoir to retain the valve plate against the valve seat in a closed condition.
