Patent number: 10724436Abstract: A method and apparatus for separating particles from an inlet airflow of a turbine engine has a centerbody with a radially outer scavenge conduit. The inlet airflow has entrained particulate matter, which can impact an impact surface defining part of the centerbody. The impact surface can be disposed at an angle or have a low coefficient of restitution to reduce the velocity of the incoming particulate matter. The particulate matter is radially diverted radially outward through the scavenge conduit, unable to make a turn defined by the shape of the centerbody.Type: GrantFiled: January 21, 2016Date of Patent: July 28, 2020Assignee: General Electric CompanyInventors: Jeffrey Carl Mayer, Apostolos Pavlos Karafillis, John Alan Manteiga, Courtney Ann Kiszewski, Kyle Earl Roland Henry, Craig Douglas Young

Publication number: 20190136765Abstract: A durable light weight, high temperature acoustic CMC liner system. A thin ceramic matrix composite skin, also referred to as a facesheet, forms an outer layer of a cell in the CMC liner system, forming the boundary with the flow of hot gases in the exhaust. A backplate forms the opposite boundary for the cell. The truss structure is formed between the backplate and the facesheet and provides the cell with strength. When the CMC system replaces the metal liner, the backplate thickness is increased so that it is about the thickness of the liner system that it replaces. The truss structure extends between the backplate and the facesheet, forming channels or volumetric spaces. These channels or volumetric spaces are filled with high temperature air permeable acoustic materials that attenuate sound propagated by cooling air in the acoustic range.Type: ApplicationFiled: November 9, 2017Publication date: May 9, 2019Inventors: Geoffrey Eric FAIR, Craig Douglas YOUNG, Kevin Andrew YOUNG

Patent number: 9846624Abstract: Techniques for switching mastership from one service in a first data center to a second (redundant) service in a second data center are provided. A service coordinator in the first data center is notified about the master switch. The service coordinator notifies each instance of the first service that the first service is not a master. Each instance responds with an acknowledgement. After it is confirmed that all instances of the first service have responded with an acknowledgement, a client coordinator in the first and/or second data center is updated to indicate that the second service is the master so that clients may send requests to the second service. Also, a service coordinator in the second data center is notified that the second service is the master. The service coordinator notifies each instance of the second service that the second service is the master. Each instance responds with an acknowledgement.Type: GrantFiled: September 26, 2014Date of Patent: December 19, 2017Assignee: Microsoft Technology Licensing, LLCInventors: Douglas A. Young, Ang Xu

Patent number: 9657682Abstract: A cylinder liner assembly is disclosed for use with an engine. The cylinder liner assembly may include a liner having a hollow generally cylindrical body extending from a top end to a bottom end along a longitudinal axis, and an internal annular cuff ring groove formed at the top end of the liner. An internal surface of the internal cuff ring groove may include a metal spray coating having a thermal conductivity that is less than a thermal conductivity of a base material of the liner to act as a thermal insulating layer. A cuff ring may be disposed within the internal cuff ring groove at the top end of the liner in contact with the metal spray coating. A seal may be disposed around an outer circumferential surface of the liner approximately in axial alignment with an internal axial end of the internal cuff ring groove.Type: GrantFiled: June 2, 2015Date of Patent: May 23, 2017Assignee: Caterpillar Inc.Inventors: Curtis John Graham, Daniel Thomas Cavanaugh, Taylor Douglas Young
