Abstract: A novel bag machine and method for sealing a novel bag is disclosed. The bag is formed by positioning adjacent end surfaces of the bag tightly together and forming a plurality of tab structures on the ends of the bag which are turned against at least one of the end surfaces of the bag to lie flush therewith. Adhesive is applied to the area of the end surfaces and the tab structures and reinforcing tape is positioned over the adhesive and over the adjacent end surfaces to cover the turned tabs. The novel machine comprises a conveyor and a perforator assembly for conveying the bag and perforating the plurality of tab structures in combination with a tab turner to turn the tabs against one of the ends of the bag. Adhesive and reinforcing tape then are introduced into the sequence after which a cut-off and a pressure group complete the sequential operation of the machine. The method for applying adhesive to both sides of adjacent surfaces on a bag or similar material is also disclosed.

Abstract: For enveloping a composite group of items in a stretchable film, a pair of initially spaced wrapping cage assemblies are moved inwardly toward each other so as to form a wrapping cage for supporting the composite group of items to be wrapped and for capturing a part of an elongated stretchable film between parts of the wrapping cage and of the composite group of items, rotating the wrapping cage assemblies so as to cause the stretchable film to envelop the composite group of items, withdrawing the wrapping cage assemblies outwardly so as to disengage the film and the composite group of items about which the stretchable film is wrapped and finally severing the stretchable film.

Abstract: An improved filling machine of the type having an expanding fill spout comprising at least two split sleeves pivotally mounted around a circular filling spout. The improved filling machine also contains new and novel automatic means for holding the bag on the fill spout and means for detecting the presence or absence of a bag on the fill spout. The split sleeves and the means for holding the bag on the fill spout are interconnected by means of levers and other mechanical connections for unit operation by at least one power cylinder or other power means. .Iadd.
