  • Publication number: 20230330402
Abstract: A capsule device (10) suitable for swallowing into a lumen of an intestinal tract of a patient comprises a housing section (12), a delivery outlet (20) for jet injection by a delivery assembly (22), an expansion assembly (26) and an expansion control mechanism (30). The expansion section (28) is arranged laterally opposite to and physically separated from the delivery outlet (20). An expansion section (28) of the expansion assembly (26) is laterally expandable from a non-expanded configuration to an expanded configuration for positioning the delivery outlet (20) against the lumen wall (14). The expansion control mechanism (30) is configured to activate the expansion assembly (26) under a predetermined condition to permit change of the expansion section (28) from the non-expanded configuration to the expanded configuration.

  • Publication number: 20230321415
Abstract: A capsule device (100) suitable for insertion into a lumen, such as a gastrointestinal lumen, of a subject. The capsule device (100) comprises: a capsule housing (110, 120), a drug chamber (B) configured to accommodate a drug substance, the drug chamber leading to a drug outlet (190),—an actuation chamber (A),—a movable separator (160) arranged between the actuation chamber and the drug chamber, wherein movement of the movable separator expels drug substance from the drug chamber (B) through the drug outlet (190), and—a gas generator (140, 150) configured actuatable to generate pressurized gas in the actuation chamber (A) for exerting mechanical load on the moveable separator (160) to expel the drug substance.

  • Publication number: 20230277823
Abstract: A capsule (100) suitable for insertion into a gastrointestinal lumen. The capsule (100) comprises: a capsule housing (110, 120), a reservoir (A) accommodating a drug substance, a drug outlet (190), an actuation chamber (118), a movable separator (160) between the actuation chamber (118) and the reservoir (A), and a drive system comprising a gas expansion unit (150) and a trigger (145, 140, 170). The gas expansion unit (150) comprises a gas gate (151) and the trigger (145, 140, 170) comprises a trigger member (170) and a swellable portion (140) comprising sponge material, wherein wetting of the sponge material causes swelling of the sponge material thereby causing relative movement between the gas expansion unit (150) and the trigger member (170) to open the gas gate (151). Pressurized gas flows from them to the actuation chamber (118) thereby exerting load on the separator (160) for expelling the drug substance.

  • Publication number: 20230263956
Abstract: A drug delivery device for administration to a subject may include a reservoir containing an active pharmaceutical ingredient and a potential energy source. The drug delivery device may also include a trigger operatively associated with the potential energy source. The trigger may be configured to actuate at a predetermined location within the subject to deploy a jet of the active pharmaceutical ingredient into a tissue of an adjacent portion of the gastrointestinal tract. In some instances, the jet may be deployed into tissue of the stomach and/or small intestine of the subject. Further, in some embodiments, the operating parameters of the jet may be selected such that the jet penetrates the tissue of the gastrointestinal tract to form a depot of the active pharmaceutical ingredient disposed within the tissue.

  • Publication number: 20220039686
Abstract: A drug delivery device for administration to a subject is provided. In some embodiments, the drug delivery device includes a reservoir containing an active pharmaceutical ingredient and a potential energy source. The drug delivery device also includes a trigger operatively associated with the potential energy source, where the trigger is configured to actuate at a predetermined location within the subject. The drug delivery device also includes a rupturable membrane disposed along a flow path extending between the reservoir and an outlet, where the membrane is configured to rupture when the trigger is actuated. Once the trigger is actuated, the potential energy from the potential energy source may be released to expel the active pharmaceutical ingredient in a jet through the outlet.
