  • Publication number: 20240102311
Abstract: A handleset includes a housing, a spindle sleeve, a handle, a coupler, and a spindle. The spindle sleeve includes an aperture, and is rotatably mounted to the housing. The handle is mounted to the spindle sleeve and includes a recess aligned with the aperture. The coupler is movably mounted in the aperture for movement between a decoupling position and a coupling position. The coupler in the coupling position is disengaged from the recess and does not prevent removal of the handle from the spindle sleeve. The coupler in the coupling position extends into the recess and prevents removal of the handle from the spindle sleeve. The spindle is movably received in the spindle sleeve and selectively retains the coupler in the coupling position.

  • Publication number: 20230349196
Abstract: A method for operating a lockset generally includes transmitting an unlock command to an electronic actuator in response to receiving an unlock signal. In response to receiving the unlock command, the electronic actuator performs a first operation, including moving a holdback from a release position to a hold position. In response to actuation of a manual actuator, a latchbolt is moved from an extended position to a retracted position. The holdback in the hold position retains the latchbolt in the retracted position.

  • Patent number: 11781600
Abstract: An exemplary torque-limiting spindle includes an input member, an output member, a clutch mechanism, and a bias mechanism. The input member extends along a longitudinal axis, is configured for connection with a handle, and includes a first engagement feature. The output member extends along the longitudinal axis, is configured for connection with a rotatable member of a lockset, and includes a second engagement feature. The clutch mechanism includes the first engagement feature and the second engagement feature. The bias mechanism is engaged with the input member and the output member and exerts a biasing force urging the first engagement feature and the second engagement feature into engagement with one another.

  • Publication number: 20230151639
Abstract: A lock apparatus according to certain embodiments has a first state and a second state, and generally includes a handle and a status indicator. The handle includes a display area formed in a front face of the handle, and the display area comprises at least a majority of the front face. The status indicator is configured to display each of a plurality of indicia in the display area. The status indicator is configured to display a first indicium in the display area when the lock apparatus is in the first state, and is configured to display a second indicium in the display area when the lock apparatus is in the second state.

  • Patent number: 11603679
Abstract: An exemplary handle assembly including a handle and a coupling mechanism. The handle includes a shank and a manually graspable portion extending from the shank. The coupling mechanism includes a coupling member and a cam sleeve. The coupling member is mounted to the shank for movement between a coupling position and a decoupling position. The cam sleeve is movably mounted to the shank and covers the coupling member. A radially-inner portion of the cam sleeve includes a cam surface operable to engage the coupling member. The cam surface is configured to drive the coupling member from the decoupling position to the coupling position as the cam sleeve is displaced from a home position to a displaced position.

  • Patent number: 11542725
Abstract: An indicator assembly for a lock assembly in which rotation of an indicator barrel having different indicator symbols is facilitated via magnetic forces. Upon locking of the lock assembly, such as via a push button assembly, an actuator is linearly displaced in a first direction, thereby causing an activation pin that is connected to the actuator to push an activation carrier in the first direction. The activation carrier can also be rotated so that a first pole of a first magnet that is coupled to the activation carrier is linearly and rotatably brought into closer proximity to a similar first pole of a second magnet that is coupled to the indicator barrel. Such displacement of the first magnet can cause a repelling force to be provided between the first and second magnets that facilitates the rotation of the indicator barrel about the lever from a first position to a second position.

  • Patent number: 11447974
Abstract: An anti-barricading turn hub assembly is configured for use with a lockset including a bolt movable to lock and unlock a door. The anti-barricading turn hub assembly includes a spindle connected to a thumb turn on one side of the lock. The spindle is releasably engaged to a turn hub that is operable by the key from the other side of the door. Under normal operation, the spindle and turn hub rotate together to lock and unlock the bolt. In a barricading situation in which the thumb turn is held to prevent the turn hub assembly from rotating, the turn hub disengages from the spindle upon application of sufficient force through rotation of the key, and the disengaged turn hub can be rotated to unlock the bolt even if the thumb turn is held to keep the spindle from rotating.

  • Patent number: 11408206
Abstract: A status indicating handle assembly generally includes a handle, an activation carrier mounted in the handle, and a status indicator mounted in the handle and engaged with the activation carrier. The handle includes a shank extending along a longitudinal axis and a grip portion extending laterally from the shank. The activation carrier is mounted in the shank, and has an unlocking position and a locking position. The status indicator has a first state in which a first indicium is displayed and a second state in which the first indicium is not displayed. The activation carrier transitions the status indicator between the first state and the second state as the activation carrier moves between the locking position and the unlocking position.

  • Patent number: 11326367
Abstract: An exemplary knob assembly includes a knob having a circumferential channel, and a deformable ring seated in the circumferential channel. The ring is normally rotatable relative to the knob such that rotation of the ring does not cause a corresponding rotation of the knob. When gripped with a sufficient gripping force, the ring frictionally engages and rotationally couples with the knob, thereby permitting transmission of torque between the ring and the knob. In certain embodiments, the knob assembly may include a detent mechanism operable to selectively couple the ring and the knob. In certain embodiments, the ring may include protrusions operable to engage pockets in the knob to provide for rotational coupling.
