  • Patent number: 11181758
Abstract: A design system generates a design for an eyewear frame customized for a user. The eyewear frame provides audio content to the user. The design system captures anthropometric data of the user. Using machine learning techniques, the design system determines features of the user from the anthropometric data and generates a three dimensional (3D) geometry of the portion of the user's head. A design for the customized eyewear frame is generated based on the 3D geometry of the portion of the user's head. The design of the customized eyewear frame includes design parameters that describe a shape of a coupling element that ensures the eyewear frame is customized to the user's head.

  • Publication number: 20210281940
Abstract: An in-ear device comprises a transducer section, a front volume section, and a rear volume section. The transducer section includes a frame and piezoelectric actuators coupled to the frame. The piezoelectric actuators are configured to generate an acoustic pressure wave. The transducer section includes a first side and a second side, the second side being opposite the first side. The front volume section is coupled to the first side to form a front cavity, the front volume section including an aperture from which the generated acoustic pressure wave exits the front volume section towards an ear drum of a user. The rear volume section is coupled to the second side to form a rear cavity. The transducer section, the front volume section, and the rear volume section are configured to fit entirely within the ear canal.

  • Publication number: 20210228149
Abstract: A cartilage conduction system may include (1) a transducer that generates mechanical energy and (2) a functionally graded material (FGM) interface dimensioned to be coupled between the transducer and cartilage located on an outer ear of a user, wherein the FGM interface (1) exhibits a gradation of at least one characteristic from one side of the FGM interface to another side of the FGM interface and (2) facilitates transferring the mechanical energy across the gradation of the characteristic from the transducer to the cartilage. Various other systems and methods are also disclosed.

  • Patent number: 10959015
Abstract: An earpiece in accordance with at least some embodiments of the present technology includes a housing and a speaker within the housing. The earpiece also includes an antenna at least partially embedded within a wall of the housing. The wall includes a window portion and an opaque portion extending around the window portion. The antenna is visible from outside the housing via the window portion. The window portion includes a transparent filler within an elongate groove in the wall. The antenna includes a radiating element within the groove, and feeding and shorting pins extending through respective openings between the groove to an interior of the housing. Making the earpiece can include disposing filler material over the radiating element, increasing a hardness of the filler material, and abrading an outer surface of the wall at the filler material to form a smooth surface.

  • Patent number: 10959007
Abstract: A headset in accordance with an embodiment of the present technology includes a headpiece, an earpiece, an arm extending therebetween, and a cord extending through the arm. The arm includes elongate first and second segments through which the arm is operably connected to the earpiece and the headpiece, respectively. The first and second segments have a telescoping arrangement such that the arm is movable between a lengthened state and a shortened state. The arm further includes a hinge operable to rotate the arm about an axis and thereby move the arm relative to the headpiece between a folded state and an unfolded state. Increased slack in the cord preferentially gathers within an interior region of the second segment when the arm moves from the lengthened state toward the shortened state and when the arm moves from the folded state toward the unfolded state.

  • Publication number: 20210051387
Abstract: An earpiece in accordance with at least some embodiments of the present technology includes a housing and a speaker within the housing. The earpiece can also include an earbud and a protrusion carried by the housing. The earbud can extend from the housing toward a canal of a user's ear when the earpiece is mounted to the user's ear. The protrusion can be at least partially received within a recess at least partially defined by a cymba concha of the user's ear and by an anterior ridge of an antihelix of the user's ear when the earpiece is mounted to the user's ear. The protrusion can include resilient members and intervening slots. The individual resilient members can be configured to preferentially bend relative to the housing in a direction parallel to an adjacent length of the anterior ridge when the earpiece is mounted to the user's ear.

  • Patent number: 10827250
Abstract: A headset in accordance with an embodiment of the present technology includes a headpiece, an earpiece, a yoke rotatably connected to the earpiece, and an arm extending between the yoke and the headpiece. The yoke at least partially defines a channel including a constriction at which a transverse cross-sectional area of the channel is non-circular. The arm includes a foot at least partially disposed within the channel. The foot is shaped to move through the constriction or be blocked from moving through the constriction depending on a rotational position of the arm relative to the yoke. The headset further includes a plug at least partially disposed within the channel. The plug restricts rotation of the arm relative to the yoke and thereby prevents movement of the foot out of the channel and corresponding separation of the arm from the yoke.

  • Patent number: 10791389
Abstract: An ear-plug assembly is implemented as part of an audio system to present a user with improved audio content. The audio system uses an acoustic conduction system to provide audio content to the user using tissue (e.g., bone and/or cartilage) born acoustic pressure waves. The ear-plug assembly mitigates leakage of low frequency components of airborne acoustic waves generated within the ear canal from the ear. The acoustic conduction system adjusts how content is presented based in part on the presence of the ear-plug assembly within the ear. In some embodiments, the ear-plug assembly may include one or more microphones (external and/or internal), and the acoustic conduction system adjusts how content is presented based on the signals detected by the one or more microphones.

Abstract: A wearable audio device in accordance with a particular embodiment of the present technology includes an earpiece, a speaker, an antenna, and processing circuitry. The earpiece includes a housing within which the speaker and the processing circuitry are disposed. The antenna conformably extends along a perimeter portion of the housing. The processing circuitry is configured to receive audio content from an audio player via the antenna. The processing circuitry is also configured to generate sound corresponding to the audio content via the speaker. The antenna is exposed and is not a loop antenna. The audio device also includes a circuit board supporting at least some of the processing circuitry within the housing.
