Abstract: An upwardly-opening door requiring limited space during opening and closing, the door being made of two panels with the second panel being hinged to the first panel and the first panel being hinged to side walls, the second panel also being guided in tracks mounted to the side walls, such that upon opening of the door the two panels form a canopy over the door opening. In a preferred embodiment, when the door is opened, the second panel is in a horizontal position.

Abstract: An apparatus for inverting a container has a platform having laterally spaced rollers which ride within channel guides having a lower vertical portion and an upper arcuate portion. The lateral rollers ride within the channel guides from the platform being lifted and when reaching the upper arcuate portion, invert the container for emptying the contents thereof.

Abstract: An oil filter crushing apparatus and method utilizing a housing defining an interior space and a bottom surface, a crushing member fitted within the housing having a crushing surface and defining a slot opening through the crushing surface, a puncturer having a point and movably attached to the crushing member within the slot opening so that the puncturer is behind the crushing surface in a retracted position and at least the point of the puncturer is forward of the crushing surface in a puncturing position.

Abstract: A novel can flattening apparatus and process is provided comprising a generally rectangular housing having side walls and a front compaction plate with the housing defining an entrance opening and an exit opening, a pivot rod extending through the housing, a pair of arms fixedly attached to the pivot rod and having rollers attached at the opposite ends thereof, a flattener plate disposed within the housing and being pivotally attached to the housing such that the flattener plate can fit flush against the front compaction plate, a structure for crimping the middle of a can mounted to the top of the flattener plate, a captive plate mounted to the structure for crimping the middle of a can.

Abstract: An octagonal housing having three sides thereof forming a door for receipt of a large metallic drum. The housing has an octagonal top space which matingly contains an octagonal pressure plate which is engagable by a hydraulic ram for compressing a drum between the octagonal pressure plate and a base supporting the housing.

Abstract: A crusher for battery electrodes having a wall, a plurality of crusher heads opposite the wall, a belt carried by the crusher heads for moving battery cathodes through the crusher, and an opening defined between the first floor and the second floor through walls discharged from crushed battery cathodes.

Abstract: The driver's cab and the rearloading, trash compactor of a conventional compactor vehicle are mounted on an elongated frame to provide a central, longitudinally-extending, space for separated discards collection apparatus. A single vehicle, small crew and a single stop thus enables both resource recovery and refuse collection. A power telescopable paper rack, is located between a power dump glass bucket and a power dump can bucket on one side of the space with access at curbside level and a glass bin and can bin are roll supported on the other side of the space for off loading laterally when filled.

Abstract: An apparatus for crushing materials such as cans into flat plate-like forms. The crushing apparatus comprises a hopper for receiving material-to-be-crushed, a feeder, and a symmetrical array of vertically stacked pairs of parallelly aligned, opposed counter-rotating rollers. The feeder includes a rotating element having an axis of rotation parallel to the rotational axes of the rollers, and further having two opposed elongated feed members, each being disposed with a corresponding longitudinal axis substantially parallel to and displaced a predetermined distance from the rotating element axis of rotation. The rotating element is pivotally mounted on a pair of spring loaded lever arms in a manner permitting displacement of its rotational axis between predetermined limits along a cylindrical surface of rotation having an axis of revolution parallel to the roller axes.
