  • Publication number: 20030004142
Abstract: The invention is directed to uses of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) for the treatment and prevention of cellular abnormalities of the lung or bronchial pathway.
    Type: Application
    Filed: April 17, 2002

    Type: Application
    Filed: April 18, 2002

  • Publication number: 20020012938
Abstract: A system to detect epithelial dysplasia is disclosed by examining cells obtained by a non-lacerational trans-epithelial device. The system selects suspect cells based on abnormal morphology, cytometry and/or using molecular diagnostic techniques. In a preferred embodiment, the results of the computer analysis are displayed as a histogram and the images of the suspect cells are reviewed for DNA ploidy by a pathologist on a cell by cell basis.
    Type: Application
    Filed: August 3, 2001
    Publication date: January 31, 2002
Inventors: Mark Rutenberg, Drore Eisen, Stephen Frist, Donald Alan Kristt
  • Patent number: 6297044
Abstract: A non-lacerational method and system employing an abrasive brush for obtaining a transepithelial sample of an epithelial lesion which may be keratinized is disclosed in which an analytical system including an imaging system is provided to detect precancerous and cancerous cells. The transepithelial non-lacerational brush produces sufficient cells from all three layers of the epithelium so that an analytical system comprising a programmed computer can detect which cells require further examination because of a likely suspicion of said pre-cancerous and cancerous conditions. The method and system can apply to the diagnosis non-cancerous conditions as well.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: April 23, 1999
Date of Patent: October 2, 2001
    Assignee: Oralscan Laboratories, Inc.
Inventors: Drore Eisen, Stephen Frist, Joel Recht

  • Patent number: 5407663
Abstract: Patients may effectively be treated for inflammatory conditions of the mouth using aqueous anti-inflammatory steroids in solutions that can be swished and expectorated as a mouthwash. Such therapy would allow direct contact of the medication with the diseased mucous membranes and would contact areas of the oral cavity that would not usually be reached with application of creams, gels, or ointments. Compositions containing antifungal agents in addition to steroids are particularly useful.Swishing for three to five minutes, then expectorating the aqueous anti-inflammatory-containing, results in maintenance of contact of the active agents with the oral cavity surfaces for a longer time than would application of gels containing those agents. The mode of application is simple and is not repugnant to the patient as is the application of creams, gels, or ointments.

  • Patent number: 5310545
Abstract: Compositions used to treat inflammatory diseases of the mouth contain anti-inflammatory steroids in combination with antifungal drugs in an aqueous medium as a mouthwash. Swishing for three to five minutes, then expectorating the mouthwashes results in maintenance of contact of the active agents with the oral cavity surfaces for a longer time than would application of gels containing those agents. The mode of application is simple and is not repugnant to the patient as is the application of creams, gels, or ointments.
