  • Patent number: 4744636
Abstract: An electron beam-addressed liquid crystal cell for a light valve. The cell (40) includes liquid crystal material (42) sandwiched between two substrates (16, 44). One substrate (44) is addressed by the electron beam (60a, 60b) and includes a coating (51) having a rate of secondary electron emission greater than the characteristic rate of secondary electron emissions of the base layer (49) of the substrate (44). The enhanced secondary electron emission characteristics of the coated substrate (44) permit the cell to be modulated with relatively lower electron beam current for correspondingly higher image resolution.

  • Patent number: 4335328
Abstract: An improved bistable storage target structure for a cathode-ray tube includes a faceplate-supported transparent target electrode covered by a transparent insulating layer. Overlying the insulating layer is an apertured web collector electrode and a storage component of secondary emissive material formed by a plurality of phosphor deposits disposed within the web apertures. A patterned layer of insulating material is provided overlying the web electrode to isolate the phosphor deposits from the collector electrode.

  • Patent number: 4284661
Abstract: A method for making a storage target for use with a cathode ray tube involves forming an insulating material at least around each of an array of collector electrode members which has been formed onto a conductive layer but leaving outer ends of the collector electrode members exposed and fixing a layer of dielectric storage material onto the conductive layer and in engagement with the insulating material around the collector electrode members to prevent luminance around the collector electrode members.

  • Patent number: 4254360
Abstract: An improved bistable storage target structure for a cathode ray tube includes a faceplate-supported apertured web collector electrode and a discontinuous layer of secondary emissive material formed by a plurality of phosphor deposits disposed within the web apertures. A layer of insulating material is provided overlying the web electrode to electrically isolate the phosphor deposits.

  • Patent number: 4251610
Abstract: An improved method of forming a multicolor cathode-ray tube display screen to minimize phosphor contamination. A light-absorbing matrix is first formed on the inner surface of a CRT faceplate, preferably by photoetching of a substantially black metallic layer. Then, multiple color dot patterns are deposited in the matrix openings by (a) depositing a layer of positive photoresist on the matrix and any previously-deposited dot pattern; (b) exposing the resist through a shadow mask to light from a point source positioned to simulate an electron gun; (c) developing the resist to form an integral mask containing a pattern of holes aligned with the matrix openings for one color phosphor; (d) coating the developed resist layer with a photohardenable phosphor slurry; (e) exposing the slurry coating through the faceplate to light from a diffuse source; (f) developing the slurry to remove the unexposed portions, leaving a pattern of dots of one color; and (g) stripping away the photoresist masking layer.

  • Patent number: 4159439
Abstract: A bistable storage cathode ray tube wherein the bistable storage target thereof has a conductive layer provided on an insulating support member, the conductive layer including a multiplicity of collector electrode members having insulating material covering at least the collector electrode members except for an area thereof. A layer of storage dielectric material is provided on the conductive layer and the insulated collector electrode members extend through the layer of dielectric material. The exposed conductive area of the collector members collect secondary electrons emitted from written areas of the dielectric layer and provide a substantially uniform potential over the target surface. The interface between the dielectric layer and the insulating material around the collector electrode members provides isolation between the dielectric layer and the collector electrode members thereby minimizing luminance around the collector electrode members.

  • Patent number: 4139800
Abstract: A bistable storage target for use with a cathode ray storage tube is provided with electrode members forming an interdigitated electrode means. Electrode members connected to one bus bar are provided with collector electrode means which extend through a storage dielectric covering the electrode means for collecting secondary electrons emitted from written areas of the storage dielectric. Electrode members connected to another bus bar are isolated from the first bus bar electrode members and they are raised to a predetermined positive voltage subsequent to the flood gun means being turned off, the writing gun is turned on and the electron beam is directed to a selected area of the target thereby erasing the stored written information thereon.
