Patent number: 12580356Abstract: A method of assembling an electrical connector includes the steps of providing an insulated flexible flat cable having a plurality of electrical conductors, inserting the flat cable within a connector housing, inserting the flat cable within a terminal housing, attaching a plurality of electrical terminals to the plurality of electrical conductors, pulling the flat cable to draw the plurality of electrical terminals within a plurality of terminal cavities defined in the terminal housing, and pulling the flat cable to further draw the terminal housing within the connector housing. An electrical connector assembly which may be made by this method is also disclosed.Type: GrantFiled: August 1, 2023Date of Patent: March 17, 2026Assignee: Aptiv Technologies AGInventors: Duane Brantingham, David R. Peterson

Patent number: 12512632Abstract: An electrical conductor assembly includes a planar first conductor, a planar second conductor overlaying the first conductor, and a first electrically insulative layer between the first and second conductors. The first electrically insulative layer and the first conductor define a first aperture though which a portion of the second conductor is exposed. A process of forming the electrical conductor assembly is also contained herein.Type: GrantFiled: May 5, 2023Date of Patent: December 30, 2025Assignee: Aptiv Technologies AGInventors: Andrew Bohan, David R Peterson, Joseph Sudik, Jr., Nicholas A. Patent number: 12476422Abstract: An electrical connector includes a connector housing having terminal cavities which are arranged in an array having at least two rows and at least two columns. Each of the terminal cavities are configured to receive electrical terminals. Each terminal cavity defines a flexible primary locking mechanism integrally formed with the connector housing and configured to engage an edge of the electrical terminal, thereby inhibiting removal of the electrical terminals from the terminal cavities. The electrical connector also includes a secondary locking mechanism slidably attached to the connector housing and movable from a pre-staged position to a staged position. The secondary locking mechanism defines a plurality of members configured to extend into the terminal cavities and engage the edge of two electrical terminals when the secondary locking mechanism is in the staged position, thereby further inhibiting removal of the electrical terminals from the terminal cavities.Type: GrantFiled: August 31, 2023Date of Patent: November 18, 2025Assignee: APTIV TECHNOLOGIES AGInventors: Eduardo Daniel Alvarez Valdes, Duane Brantingham, Arturo Casares Valdes, Roberto Carlos Narro Lara

Patent number: 12431656Abstract: An electrical connector assembly includes several electrical terminals. Each electrical terminal has a connection portion extending along a first axis and an attachment portion extending along a second axis substantially perpendicular to the first axis. The electrical connector assembly further includes a connector housing having terminal cavities in which the electrical terminals are disposed and a wire dress cover slidably attached to the connector housing. The wire dress cover is moveable in a direction substantially parallel to the second axis from a pre-staged position to a staged position. The wire dress cover defines a locking feature to secure the electrical terminals within the terminal cavities when in the staged position and to inhibit movement of the wire dress cover from the pre-staged position to the staged position when one of the electrical terminals is in an unseated condition within one of the terminal cavities.Type: GrantFiled: October 26, 2022Date of Patent: September 30, 2025Assignee: APTIV TECHNOLOGIES AGInventors: Arturo Casares Valdes, Duane Brantingham, Eduardo Daniel Alvarez Valdez, Velmurugan Kandasamy

Publication number: 20250125552Abstract: A connector assembly includes a connector housing defining a terminal cavity within, the terminal cavity having a first primary locking feature configured to retain a first terminal having a first retaining feature within the terminal cavity. The connector assembly also includes a second terminal having a second retaining feature that is configured to interface with a corresponding second primary locking feature that is of a different design than the first primary locking feature. The connector assembly further includes an adapter having a first attachment feature configured to engage with the second retaining feature of the second terminal to attach the second terminal to the adapter and having a second attachment feature configured to engage with the first primary locking feature of the terminal cavity to attach the adapter to the connector housing. A method of assembling a connector assembly is also presented.Type: ApplicationFiled: October 16, 2023Publication date: April 17, 2025Inventors: Rangarajan SUNDARAKRISHNAMACHARI, Siddhan MANICKAM, Dale SMUTNY, Duane BRANTINGHAM
