  • Publication number: 20030231811
Abstract: The presently preferred embodiments relate to film structures that are exposed to focused energy to provide a score line on an internal layer of the film structure, or on both an internal layer of a film structure and an outer layer of the film structure. In addition, the present invention relates to a package that may be torn along the score line. More specifically, the package may have a score line provided on an internal layer of barrier material, such as ethylene vinyl alcohol copolymer, polyvinylidene chloride copolymer, nylon, or any other laser scorable barrier material. The score line in an internal layer and/or in the surface of the film may allow the package to be opened using tearing forces, thereby exposing a product within the package and allowing a user of the package to gain access to product that may be contained therein.

  • Publication number: 20030124294
Abstract: The present invention relates to a flexible pouch that is sealed on the sides to provide a space therein for a product. On one end of the pouch may be a recloseable feature. A patterned score line may be provided on an end of the pouch for removing a sheath disposed over the recloseable feature thereby exposing the recloseable feature. The pouch may be utilized for the storage of food products, such as cheese.

  • Patent number: 6306472
Abstract: Multilayer films and packaging structures having a delamination seal and an oxygen barrier layer are disclosed. The delamination structure adjacent to the EVOH oxygen barrier layer binds well to the EVOH layer and also retains its ability to delaminate. The multilayer films, and packages in which they are utilized, have several layers including a first, external layer; a second, tie layer comprising a mixture of polybutylene and an anhydride modified polyethylene such that a peelable bond is formed between said first, external layer and said second, tie layer; a third, core layer comprising ethylene vinyl alcohol which functions as an oxygen barrier layer; a fourth, tie layer comprising an anhydride modified polyethylene and a fifth, external layer.
