  • Patent number: 4133176
Abstract: An adjustable hydraulic makeup and control system is provided for supplementing the primary hydraulic flow to overcome leakage and thus be able to maintain a constant pulling load on a drill pipe or other tool in a well hole for an indefinite length of time.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: May 18, 1977
Date of Patent: January 9, 1979
    Assignee: Western Gear Corporation
Inventors: Duane K. Russell, James L. Cordell
  • Patent number: 3976099
Abstract: A rigid, multiple-passage, quick-disconnect coupling in which valves of a supply section of the assembly are moved to mechanically open valves in a receiver section for enabling pressurization of telescopic cylinder sections. Energization of the innermost cylinder section automatically actuates the valves for enabling pressurization of the remaining cylinder sections. The coupling sections have opposed valve surfaces substantially flush with the surrounding surfaces of the coupling sections.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: September 30, 1974
Date of Patent: August 24, 1976
    Assignee: Western Gear Corporation
    Inventor: Duane K. Russell
  • Patent number: 3949818
Abstract: A two-ram hydraulic drilling rig is provided with a lateral support frame. The rams have rods connected through a tension structure with a power swivel. The power swivel has a removable swivel stem assembly for allowing through-swivel positioning of drill pipe, particularly for tripping.
