Abstract: A device for exhaust-gas recirculation for an internal combustion engine is provided that includes a flange for attaching to a cylinder head of the internal combustion engine. Combustion air flows from a passage region of the flange directly into at least one intake duct of a cylinder, and an inlet for an inflow of recirculated exhaust gas into the combustion air is provided. The inlet for the inflow of the recirculated exhaust gas is arranged on the flange.

Abstract: An apparatus for separating at least two discrete volumes of a composite liquid into at least a first component and a second component, comprising a valve design that facilitates loading and unloading of blood bags and associated tubing and bag sets. The valves comprise a rotating head, mounted on a shaft, which assumes a “load” position. The head pivots to an “open” position, which secures the tube in its designated location, but which maintains an open lumen through the tube. When the head is in a “closed” position, blood components cannot flow through the tube. The valve apparatus comprises means for maintaining a constant pressure on the tube and contact with the tube as the tube is melted and sealed.

Abstract: A coring knife can be used to make a circular incision. The coring knife includes an abutment that is inserted into an initial slit through the heart wall. The abutment can be inserted into the slit while oriented in a direction that minimizes its insertion profile. After insertion, the abutment is reoriented by turning a key so that its abutment surface faces toward a circular cutting edge of the coring knife on the other side of the heart wall. The circular incision through the heart wall is made by pressing the circular cutting edge of the coring knife against the abutment.

Abstract: An intake manifold is provided that includes an integrated charge air cooler, comprising a housing having a first housing part and a second housing part connected thereto, wherein charge air flows into the housing via an inlet and flows out of the housing via an outlet, wherein the charge air cooler is disposed in the housing and is permeated by the charge air on the path from the inlet to the outlet, wherein the charge air cooler is completely enclosed by the housing, except for passages for passing a cooling fluid, and the charge air cooler is elastically supported relative to the housing, wherein the support takes place by means of at least one elastic bearing element in particular disposed on a collector of the charge air cooler.

Abstract: A high temperature furnace comprising hot zone insulation having at least one shaped thermocouple assembly port to reduce temperature measurement variability is disclosed. The shaped thermocouple assembly port has an opening in the insulation facing the hot zone that is larger than the opening on the furnace shell side of the insulation. A method for producing a crystalline ingot in a high temperature furnace utilizing insulation having a shaped thermocouple assembly port is also disclosed.

Abstract: An error monitor receives a first list of selected system events with each selected system event having an associated range. The occurrence of each selected system event is counted over a selected time period. An error indication is provided based on a comparison of each of the counts of the occurrence of each selected system event over the selected time period with the associated range. Operational profiles are used to store lists of selected system events with each selected system event having an associated range for each operational profile.

Abstract: A method of processing data on a server computer is disclosed. The method includes receiving data at the server computer, the data including a first data string including one or more wildcard values. The first data string is specifically associated with a customer, and the one or more wildcard values are associated with the purchase transaction. The method also includes comparing the first data string to a second data string by the server computer, and providing an output to the consumer based on the comparison.

Abstract: Preparing the heart for connection with a ventricular assist device (VAD) can include attaching an attachment ring to a ventricular apex of the heart. The attachment ring optionally includes a seal or a valve to allow the procedure to be performed with or without a heart-lung bypass. A valve can be temporarily attached to the attachment ring. Tissue is removed from the ventricular apex through the attachment ring to form a hole through which an inflow conduit of the VAD can be inserted. A slit can first be made in the ventricular apex to facilitate removal of the tissue. A clamp can be closed around the attachment ring to secure the inflow conduit.

Abstract: Exemplary embodiments of the invention provide a reference signal generator having a controlled quality (“Q”) factor. An exemplary apparatus to generate a harmonic reference signal includes a reference resonator, such as an LC-tank, which generates a first reference signal having a resonant frequency, and a plurality of reactance modules couplable to the reference resonator. Each reactance module comprises one or more reactance unit cells, and each reactance unit cell comprises a reactance element coupled in series to a switching element. In exemplary embodiments, the reactance element is a capacitor having a predetermined unit of capacitance, and the switching element is a transistor having a predetermined resistance when in an off state. The ratio of capacitance to resistance is substantially constant for all reactance modules of the plurality of reactance modules.

The valve sections are mounted on an upper plate, and the stepper motor sections are mounted on a lower plate. A main radio frequency coil is selectively electrically coupled to each of the valves through a multiplexing switch.

Abstract: The present invention generally relates to dynamic focus adjustment for an image system. With the assistance of a height detection sub-system, present invention provides an apparatus and methods for micro adjusting an image focusing according the specimen surface height variation by altering the field strength of an electrostatic lens between objective lens and sample stage/or a bias voltage applied to the sample surface. Merely by way of example, the invention has been applied to a scanning electron inspection system. But it would be recognized that the invention could apply to other system using charged particle beam as observation tool with a height detection apparatus.

Abstract: An improved portable electronic device includes a touch-sensitive display and a text input routine that employs an error correction routine. The error correction routine evaluates inputs to determine whether they are ambiguous based upon the actual location of the input and with the use of a linguistic database. The error correction routine is suspended for a single input immediately following a deletion input, after which the error correction routine is automatically reactivated. In the example embodiment described herein, the error correction routine is suspended for a single input by ignoring the output of the error correction routine, after which the output of the error correction routine is not ignored for subsequent inputs.

Abstract: Architectures and implementations of a transceiver system for wireless communications are presented, the system including one or more antennas supporting a single frequency band or multiple frequency bands, a transmit circuit, a receive circuit, and an isolation circuit that is coupled to the one or more antennas and the transmit and receive circuits and provides adequate isolation between the transmit circuit and the receive circuit.

Abstract: Exemplary embodiments of the invention provide a reference signal generator, system and method. An exemplary apparatus to generate a harmonic reference signal includes a reference resonator, such as an LC-tank, a control voltage generator adapted to provide a temperature-dependent control voltage; and a plurality of variable reactance modules. The reference resonator generates a first reference signal having a resonant frequency, and each reactance module is adapted to modify a corresponding reactance in response to the control voltage to maintain the resonant frequency substantially constant or within a predetermined variance over a predetermined temperature range. A frequency controller may also be included to maintain substantially constant a magnitude of a peak amplitude of the first reference signal and maintains substantially constant a common mode voltage level of the reference resonator.

Braille character is input by engaging at least one area of the three substantially linearly arranged finger responsive areas and the one finger responsive area. Alternatively, a Braille touchpad containing six finger responsive areas arranged in two columns corresponding to first and second column representations of a Braille character and an adjacent touch gesture pad is described, containing a plurality of finger and gesture responsive areas. A Braille character is input by engaging at least one of the six finger responsive areas and the plurality of finger and gesture responsive areas. Word processing and command action may be initiated by the gesture pad.

Abstract: A coring knife can be used to make a circular incision. The coring knife can include an abutment that can be inserted into heart tissue. The circular incision is made by pressing the circular cutting edge of the coring knife against the abutment.

Abstract: A ventricular assist system and a method of implanting the system are disclosed. The system can have a pump, an inflow conduit, an outflow conduit, attachment ring, ring clamp, and a valvular structure. The attachment ring can be attached to the apex of the heart. The valvular structure can have a flexible, one-way valve in a rigid housing. The inflow conduit can be passed through the valvular structure and the attachment ring into a beating heart with minimal loss of blood. Devices such as slitting tool, coring knife, and/or C-clamp and use of the devices can form part of the system and method for implanting the ventricular assist device.
