  • Patent number: 10687306
Abstract: Methods, systems, and apparatuses are described for throttling and management of notifications. A rules manager stores definitions of multiple classes of notifications for sending to recipients. Each of the classes has a respective set of throttling parameters that enables notifications in each class to be selectively throttled. A notification monitor monitors the number of notifications in each class transmitted to a plurality of recipients over time. In response to determining that a threshold number of notifications of a class have been transmitted to a recipient during an interval of time, the recipient is placed in a throttled mode for the class that reduces a subsequent number of notifications transmitted to the recipient. The threshold number may be dependent upon a transmission channel of the notification. The recipient is informed of being placed in the throttled mode and provided an indication of where subsequent notifications can be accessed.

  • Patent number: 7076274
Abstract: Various aspects of a method and system for indicating the link quality between wireless base station units are presented. The establishment of a wireless network involves the placement of and communication between several base station units. To facilitate the operational capability of such a wireless network, a method for continuously displaying the quality of the links between these base station units is introduced. The method provides each base station with the information necessary to individually display the quality of the links between itself and its neighboring base stations. The displays can take on a variety of formats. Additionally, link quality of neighboring base stations can be collected by a central controller which can process the information and create a grid showing the link quality throughout the wireless network.

  • Patent number: 7016325
Abstract: Disclosed is a system and method for wirelessly exchanging communications with at least one mobile unit in a network that includes base stations units. The method includes receiving a wireless communication from the mobile unit, where the wireless communication is under a wireless communications protocol that does not provide for handoff of communications links between base station units. The method also includes obtaining a unique session identifier for the communication with the mobile unit, and establishing a communications link with the mobile unit, where the communications link includes link context data associated with the mobile unit. The link context data associated with the mobile unit is identified at least in part based on the unique session identifier.

  • Patent number: 6768720
Abstract: A home network controller provides a user-visible indication of the integrity of a physical connection to a home network. The home network controller periodically checks an interrupt status register for receipt of a physical-layer packet. Receipt of a physical-layer packet serves as a proxy for a functional physical connection, and non-receipt of a packet serves as a proxy for a non-functional physical connection. To avoid race conditions, the controller will indicate failure of a previously functional physical connection if no packet was received during the period but a packet was transmitted during the period and a packet was transmitted during the immediately previous period. A heartbeat signal avoids deadlocks by transmitting a packet if the interrupt status register indicates no packets were received or transmitted during the period.
