Abstract: According to this disclosure, a control system for an electric vehicle includes an electronic speed controller (ESC) configured to control an electric motor operably connected to a wheel of the electric vehicle and an electric vehicle controller configured to monitor an operating characteristic of the electric motor, wherein the operating characteristic comprises a voltage, current, or frequency of the electric motor. The electric vehicle controller can he configured to determine at least one user input based on the operating characteristic of the electric motor. The user input can be indicative of acceleration, constant speed, or deceleration. The electric vehicle controller can be configured to send a signal to the electronic speed controller for the electronic speed controller to control the electric motor based on the determined user input.
