    Abstract: A device driver, for generating control commands for driving a peripheral, includes a status store configured to store state data, which identifies a current state for each of a number of functions of a peripheral. The device driver also includes a driver engine that is operable to generate control commands for driving a peripheral in accordance with state data stored in the status store. The device driver further includes a user interface generation module for generating display data that defines graphical user interface displays in dependence upon data stored in the status store and is responsive to user selection of graphical elements in generated user interface displays to update data stored in said status store. The user interface generation module includes a graphics store configured to associate each state of each of said number of functions of a peripheral with an item of graphics data defining a graphical element.
