  • Publication number: 20080195364
Abstract: A method for predicting a tool point response of a spindle-holder-tool assembly to be used for high-speed machining applications is provided. The method includes determining direct and cross displacement-to-force receptances of a standard holder clamped in the spindle. The method also includes determining direct receptances at a free end of the standard holder based upon the determined direct and cross displacement-to-force receptances of the standard holder. Additionally, the method includes performing an inverse receptance coupling to simulate a decomposition of the standard holder into multiple subassemblies, the subassemblies including a spindle-holder base subassembly and an extended holder subassembly. The method further includes determining spindle-holder base subassembly receptances based upon the simulated decomposition of the standard holder.

  • Patent number: 7411160
Abstract: A convection cooking appliance includes a convection fan for establishing a convection airflow which is heated by a heating element including first and second sections that are symmetrically disposed about the convection fan substantially parallel to and downstream of the convection fan. Each of the first and second sections is formed so as to include at least three lobes and four 180° turns, while establishing a thin profile heating element. A convection fan cover extends across the convection fan and includes a main body portion having an outlet portion for directing the convection airflow into a cooking chamber of the appliance. The outlet portion includes an angled louver and a trip edge portion. The angled louver and trip edge portion cooperate to alter a direction of the convection airflow from being substantially parallel to the main body portion to being substantially perpendicular the main body portion.

  • Patent number: 7410804
Abstract: A process of forming an array of powder samples arranged in predefined locations where all samples have a flat surface in a common plane has been developed. A main support having at least N perforations from a first surface of the main support through a second surface of the main support in predefined locations. The main support is equipped with a flat support temporarily attached to its first surface. All samples are loaded simultaneously. A flat surface of each sample, where the flat surfaces are a common plane, is formed by forcing the samples within the perforations against the flat support. The samples are retained in position within the perforations against the flat support using at least one cover. The flat surfaces of the samples are in predefined locations and are all in a common plane.

  • Publication number: 20080186028
Abstract: This invention is a method and device for monitoring and storing data regarding the “life history” of a battery with which it is associated and interpreting the data to create an accurate record of use and abuse patterns. A manufacturer's specified life expectancy, measured in battery cycles, is established for the battery under normal use, and then the actual use of the battery is monitored and stored. Complete cycles, partial cycles, and operation of the battery outside of acceptable specifications are automatically derived into a value in units equivalent to a number of battery cycles, and this derivation is compared with the manufacturers life expectancy, and adjustments to the manufacturers life expectancy are made so that a more accurate and up-to-date estimation of battery life can be evolved over the life of the battery.

  • Publication number: 20080185999
Abstract: A power supply device that enables completion of precharging to be accurately determined without increasing manufacturing cost. The power supply device includes a battery pack, a positive main contactor, a precharge contactor, and a precharge resistor. The battery pack supplies DC power to an inverter. A smoothing capacitor is arranged between input terminals of the inverter. The positive main contact disconnects the inverter from a positive electrode of the battery pack. A voltmeter detects the voltage between a negative electrode of the battery pack and a connection node of the precharge contactor and precharge resistor. Voltage detection values taken by the voltmeter immediately before precharging and during precharging are used to determine precharging completion.

  • Publication number: 20080179105
Abstract: A hole coring system is provided that greatly stabilizes a tubular core drill bit for drilling into concrete or other materials enabling large diameter holes to be drilled with a handheld tool. The drill bit is guided by a mandrel which is attached to the concrete. The mandrel serves as a central guidepost that ensures that a relatively large diameter, tubular core drill bit remains precisely centered relative to the guide mandrel. This enables the operator to use a commonly available tool to rotate the drill and apply drill pressure only. The motor may rotate the drill bit via a gear box. The gear box may have a lever arm which may be used to resist any torquing action of the gear box due to the friction between the drill bit and the concrete. Additionally, in the event the motor's housing is not fixed to the gearbox and allowed to rotate, a brace may be attached to the lever arm which may be used to resist any torquing action of the motor's housing due to the friction between the drill bit and the concrete.
