  • Patent number: 9053718
Abstract: A method for forming a protective overcoat onto a tape bearing surface of a tape head used for magnetic tape recording. In order to ensure optimal surface tension and liftoff properties of the ink mask, the tape bearing surface is treated with a first application of ethanol, followed by an application of polydimethylsiloxane, followed by a second application of ethanol. After this treatment an ink mask can be printed onto the tape bearing surface so as to form a mask having an opening over the location of the magnetic transducer. An etching can then be performed followed by the deposition of a protective coating such as alumina.

  • Patent number: 7562501
Abstract: An apparatus for clamping a module within a structure, e.g. a cold-wall structure, is presented. The apparatus includes a plurality of aligned, movable members defining a plane and having at least one beveled surface in contact with a beveled surface of an adjacent member. Guide wires align the movable members. A guide pin is used to guide the insertion of the apparatus into the structure. A screw mechanism, mounted at one end of the apparatus, engages with a hole in the structure. Rotation of the screw mechanism forces an end of the apparatus into contact with the structure. Continued rotation of the screw mechanism generates a compressive force which induces the movable members to move out of the defined plane in opposite directions relative to adjacent members. Members contact a wall of the structure and the module, thereby clamping the module against the structure.

  • Patent number: 6094115
Abstract: An interconnect structure defining an interconnect transmission line for RF signal interconnection between two substrates. The interconnect structure includes an outer shield member forming an electrically conductive outer shield structure. A solid conductor pin is sized to form an inner conductor, the pin having a first pin diameter, and a head region of a second pin diameter greater than the first pin diameter, said head region formed intermediate a first pin end and a second pin end. A first dielectric tube member has an outer diameter sized in relation to an opening dimension of the shield member to fit tightly therein, and an inner tube diameter sized to receive tightly therein a first region of the pin of the first pin diameter, the first tube member having a first tube first end and a first tube second end. A second dielectric tube member has an outer diameter sized to fit tightly in the outer shield, and an inner tube diameter sized to receive tightly therein a second region of the pin.

  • Patent number: 5875929
Abstract: A toothpaste dispensing apparatus that provides a mechanism for efficiently and selectively squeezing the contents from a toothpaste tube. The apparatus includes a tube compressing assembly with a pair of reversible motorized opposing rollers which squeeze a collapsible toothpaste tube displacing the tube's contents to a dispensing port. The apparatus is easily loaded with a new tube and effectively compresses the tube without premature buckling of the tube and without the need of securing the crimped end of the tube.

  • Patent number: 5508666
Abstract: The present invention provides an improved rf feedthrough connector having a first section (12) in which a inner conductor (18) is spaced from a co-axial outer conductive shield (16) by a cylindrical insulating dielectric layer (22). A second section (14) has a second inner conductor (28) which is electrically coupled to the first inner conductor (18). A second outer shield (34) is spaced from the second inner conductor by a semi-cylindrical insulating dielectric layer (30). The inner radius (R1) of the first outer shield (16) is different from the inner radius (R3) of the second outer shield (26). Given the properties of the material forming the first and second dielectric layers, (22) and (30), these radii are selected so as to provide a uniform impedance in both the first (12) and second (14) sections of the feedthrough connector (10).

  • Patent number: 5345347
Abstract: A method for controlling a rotating disk magnetic data storage device employing several reduced power modes which are automatically entered and exited under the control of the rotating disk device microcontroller. Two modes are provided which are fully responsive to host computer commands, and are thereby transparent to the host computer user, all providing significant power savings. An additional full power down mode is provided which can be initiated by a command from the host computer user, wherein the operational state parameters of the rotating disk device are stored in the host computer until the host computer powers on the device. At this time the stored state parameter are restored into the rotating disk device allowing it to resume its operational state immediately prior to the power suspension.
