  • Patent number: 11836901
Abstract: One embodiment provides a method comprising determining metadata corresponding to an input image, determining a black level of a display device and a peak luminance value of the display device, and determining a tone mapping function that adaptively compensates for the black level of the display device based on the metadata, the black level of the display device, and the peak luminance value of the display device. The metadata comprises a distribution of luminance values in the input image. The black level of the display device and the peak luminance value of the display device represent a lowest luminance value and a highest luminance value, respectively, achievable on the display device. The method further comprises applying the tone mapping function to the input image to generate a tone-mapped image that adaptively compensates for the black level of the display device and provided to the display device for presentation.

  • Publication number: 20230039667
Abstract: One embodiment provides a method comprising receiving an input content, and receiving ambient contextual data indicative of one or more ambient lighting conditions of an environment including a display device. The input content has corresponding metadata that at least partially represents a creative intent indicative of how the input content is intended to be viewed. The method further comprises adaptively correcting the input content based on the ambient contextual data to preserve the creative intent, and providing the corrected input content to the display device for presentation. The adaptively correcting comprises applying automatic white balancing to the input content to correct color tone of the input content.

  • Publication number: 20220327672
Abstract: One embodiment provides a method comprising determining multi-dimensional metadata corresponding to an input image, and determining ambient light information indicative of a level of ambient light in an ambient environment of a display device. The multi-dimensional metadata comprises a cumulative distribution function (CDF) of pixels in the input image. The method further comprises determining, based on the multi-dimensional metadata and the ambient light information, one or more gains that adaptively compensate for the level of ambient light in the ambient environment. The method further comprises generating a tone mapping function based on the one or more gains, and applying the tone mapping function to the input image to generate a tone-mapped image that adaptively compensates for the level of ambient light in the ambient environment. The tone-mapped image is provided to the display device for presentation.

  • Patent number: 9571857
Abstract: Methods and apparatus are provided for video image pruning. An apparatus includes a data pruner for pre-processing a picture prior to, and in preparation for, compression by encoding. The data pruner selectively removes, in the spatial domain, at least one region within the picture. At the decoder end, an apparatus includes a data restorer for receiving a decompressed picture subsequent to decompression by decoding, and post-processing the decompressed picture by selectively restoring, in the spatial domain, at least one region in the decompressed picture based on information indicating a removal of the at least one region prior to a previously performed encoding process.

  • Patent number: 7822286
Abstract: A method filters pixels in a sequence of images. Each image in the sequence is partitioned into blocks of pixels, and the images are processed sequentially. The energy is determined for each block of pixels in each image. The energy of each block is based on variances of intensities of the pixels in the sequence of images. A 3D fuzzy filter is applied to each current pixel in each current block during the sequential processing. The 3D fuzzy filter considers the energy of the block, and the intensities of pixels spatially adjacent and temporally adjacent to the current pixel to remove blocking and ringing artifacts.
