Patent number: 9867807Abstract: The disclosure provides rifamycin and rifamycin derivative compositions, including rifabutin and rifabutin derivative compositions able to cause drug-sensitization in a cancer cell or inhibition of a cancer cell. The disclosure also provides methods of administering such compositions to cancer cells to sensitize them to drugs, such as chemotherapeutics, or directly inhibit them. The disclosure also provides methods of administering such compositions to increase reactive oxygen species (ROS), particularly superoxides, in cancer cells. The disclosure further provides methods of determining whether a cancer will respond to chemotherapeutics and whether to administer rifamycin or a rifamycin derivative based on ROS levels in cancer cells of a patient.Type: GrantFiled: November 28, 2016Date of Patent: January 16, 2018Assignee: The Texas A&M University SystemInventors: James Sacchettini, Niam Zhou, Dwight Baker, Steven A. Publication number: 20150122482Abstract: An annular blowout container (ABOC) that may be used in multiples in a stack in conjunction with additional gate and shear valves to protect a wellhead. The ABOC incorporates a cylindrical formed bladder that provides a tight constrictive seal around whatever pipe or tubing may be in the well bore. The bladder is made of top and bottom rotator plates with springs extending between the plates. The springs are encased in Teflon® and held in place by Kevlar® then covered over completely with cured Viton® that is injected to complete the overall bladder in a molded form. Rotation of the top and bottom rotator plates effects a twisting constriction around the drill pipe or tubing. Electrical and hydraulic operational components are housed inside chambers within the ABOC for predominantly self-contained operation. The cylindrical bladder assembly may be removed and replaced after extended use.Type: ApplicationFiled: September 23, 2014Publication date: May 7, 2015Inventor: Dwight Baker

Patent number: 8919430Abstract: A system for containing and recovering from the blowout of an oil or gas well. The blowout containment (BOC) system is operable in place of, or as a failsafe alternative to, standard blowout preventer (BOP) systems. The BOC system includes a hydraulically operated gate valve positioned over the well at the wellhead. The gate valve includes a check valve operable when the gate valve is closed. The BOC system further includes at least one shearing assembly positioned over the gate valve. The shearing assembly orients explosive charges into the well flow path. An activation trigger detonates the explosive charges to clear the well flow path of obstructions to permit the gate valve to close. Operation of the BOC system is preferably monitored and controlled from a remote location apart from the rig associated with the well.Type: GrantFiled: April 20, 2012Date of Patent: December 30, 2014Inventor: Dwight Baker

Patent number: 7318580Abstract: A heavy duty wheeled vehicle for an industrial environment is electrically driven by one or more switched reluctance motor traction drive system connected to the wheels. The switched reluctance motors are powered by an electrical generator that is driven by an engine, such as a diesel engine, which may run at a substantially constant RPM. A digital control system provides operator displays and controls power conversion from the generator, as well as providing maintenance and control functions for the switched reluctance motors. A heavy-duty hoisting apparatus electrically drives a hoisting mechanism using an SR motor, providing power for lifting a load. The heavy-duty hoisting apparatus may include an engine and generator or provide power to the SR motor from an external source.Type: GrantFiled: March 6, 2007Date of Patent: January 15, 2008Assignee: LeTourneau Technologies, Inc.Inventors: Ronald A. Johnston, Dwight Baker, Nelson L. Stoldt, Paul K. Schufeldt, Peter J. Bradley
