  • Patent number: 4602490
Abstract: The backset of a deadbolt lock may be adjusted selectively between 23/8" and 23/4" by manually shifting a spring-loaded pin which extends through vertical slots in the lock bolt, U-shaped slots in the driver bar and inverted L-shaped slots in the lock case. The pin also connects the driver bar to the bolt and causes the bolt to move between extended and retracted positions when the operating spindle of the lock is turned.

  • Patent number: 4186952
Abstract: A molded plastic latch assembly includes a housing adapted to receive a rotatable latch member. The inner end of the latch member includes bifurcated locking tabs received by an opening in the bolt. The locking tabs cooperate with an integrally molded locking pin. The latch member and housing include a cooperative detent construction integrally molded in the housing and latch member.

  • Patent number: 4056955
Abstract: An automobile ignition lock includes a plug with a plurality of tumblers. The plug is rotatably mounted in a cylinder and includes a slot for receipt of a tumbler actuating key. A key bolt is positioned at the inner end of the key slot and is movable in response to insertion of the key in the key slot from a plug locking to a plug unlocking position. Excessive longitudinal transfer or movement of the key bolt relocks the plug and cylinder and prevents relative rotation. Thus, a key with appropriate bitting and of appropriate length must be used to effect unlocking of the plug from the cylinder. As an additional security feature of the lock, the plug is designed with a circumferential slot that fractures and separates the plug into two separate portions when an attempt is made to forceably rotate the plug relative to the cylinder.

  • Patent number: 3978700
Abstract: A lock construction for a safe deposit box requires two keys for operation of the bolt. The first key is provided by the vault guard and the second key is provided by the customer. Each key activates a separate set of wafer-like tumblers by rotating the tumblers in response to rotation of the key. Each set of tumblers includes a plurality of key engaging drive tumblers which are gear engaged with gate tumblers. Appropriate rotation of the keys orients a notch of the gate tumblers that permits withdrawal of the bolt. Stops are provided on the bolt cooperative with key operated shifters to insure sequential operation of the keys. A change key tool may be inserted from the back side of the lock to disengage the drive and gate tumblers. Subsequent to disengagement of the tumblers, it is possible to substitute one or both of the keys and thus change the relative gear engagement of the tumblers.
