  • Publication number: 20210221323
Abstract: A restraint system for helping to protect an occupant of a vehicle having a side structure and a cabin with a seat for the occupant includes an airbag having a stored condition outboard of the occupant. The airbag is inflatable to a deployed condition positioned between the occupant and the vehicle side structure. The airbag extends in a forward-rearward direction from a first end positioned in front of the occupant to a second end positioned behind the occupant such that a torso and head of the occupant are laterally aligned with the second end when the seat is placed in a reclined position.

  • Publication number: 20210146871
Abstract: A mounting bracket for being installed in a mounting tab of a curtain airbag to facilitate connecting the curtain airbag to a vehicle with a fastener includes a plate with a bracket aperture extending therethrough. At least one retainer tab extends radially inward into the bracket aperture from a periphery of the bracket aperture. A free end portion of the at least one retainer tab defines a retainer aperture sized to form an interference fit with the fastener. The at least one retainer tab and the retainer aperture are configured to retain a fastener extending through the mounting tab.

  • Publication number: 20210114545
Abstract: An apparatus for helping to protect an occupant of a vehicle includes a curtain airbag having a stored condition in which the curtain airbag is deflated, flattened, and rolled and/or folded. The apparatus further includes a wrap that comprises an integral woven portion of the curtain airbag formed from a fabric extension of an upper edge of the curtain airbag. The wrap is configured to be wrapped about a circumference of the rolled and/or folded curtain airbag to package the curtain airbag in the stored condition.

  • Publication number: 20210039582
Abstract: An apparatus for helping to protect an occupant of a vehicle includes a curtain airbag rolled about a central longitudinal axis. A pair of longitudinally extending creases are formed on the rolled curtain airbag. Each of the creases extend from an outer surface of the rolled curtain airbag inward toward the central longitudinal axis of the rolled curtain airbag. A method for packaging a curtain airbag of a vehicle safety system includes rolling the curtain airbag about a central longitudinal axis. Creases are formed in radially opposite, longitudinally extending portions of an outer surface of the rolled curtain airbag inward toward the central longitudinal axis.

  • Publication number: 20210009071
Abstract: An apparatus for helping to protect an occupant of a vehicle includes a curtain airbag inflatable from a stored condition to a deployed condition in which the curtain airbag is positioned between a side structure of the vehicle and the vehicle occupant. The curtain airbag comprises a mounting tab comprising overlying layers of airbag material that define a pocket and through each of which a mounting tab aperture extends. A bracket comprises a plate with a bracket aperture extending therethrough. The bracket is positioned in the pocket so that the bracket aperture is aligned with the mounting tab apertures. A fastener has a portion extending though the mounting tab apertures and the bracket aperture. The fastener blocks the bracket from removal from the pocket.

  • Patent number: 10676060
Abstract: In a method of folding an airbag (10) for a vehicle occupant restraint system, especially of curtain-type side airbag, to form an airbag package (12?), the airbag (10) is rolled and/or folded to form an airbag roll (12) having a first volume (V1). The airbag roll (12) is fed to a pressing device (14) in which the airbag roll (12) is compressed to form an airbag package (12?) having a second volume (V2) which is smaller than the first volume (V1). The airbag roll (12) and, resp., the airbag package (12?) is heated within the pressing device (14) and the airbag package (12?) is cooled, with the airbag package (12?) retaining the second volume (V2) when it is removed from the pressing device (14; 114). The pressing device (14) includes a pressing mold or a molding shaft (18) whose height substantially corresponds to the desired height of the finished airbag packages (12?), a heating unit (20) for heating the airbag packages (12?) and a cooling device (22) for cooling the airbag packages (12?).
