    Abstract: The present disclosure provides methods and apparatus of fabricating a transducer for use in ultrasound imaging. A substrate is provided. The substrate may be a silicon substrate having a first side and a second side opposite the first side. A transducer membrane is formed over the first side of the substrate. The transducer membrane includes a piezoelectric component. A well is formed in the substrate from the second side. A backing material is dispensed onto a first sidewall of the well in a manner so as to create a capillary effect that causes the backing material to wick down the sidewall, across the back side of the substrate exposed by the well, and up a second sidewall of the well. The transducer membrane is deflected so that the transducer membrane has a concave shape.

An exemplary IVUS device includes an flexible elongate member having a lumen extending therethrough, and a rotatable imaging core disposed within the lumen. The imaging core is further configured to transmit and receive ultrasound signals through a distal portion of the flexible elongate member. The distal portion of the flexible elongate member includes a first set of material layers, while the proximal portion includes a second set of material layers different than the first set of material layers. The first set of material layers and the second material layers minimize distortion of the ultrasound signals. The first set of material layers further facilitates an average speed of sound through the first set of material layers that is substantially equivalent to a speed of sound through blood.

    Abstract: The present disclosure involves a method of fabricating an ultrasound transducer. A piezoelectric polymer is mixed into a solution containing a first chemical and a second chemical to form a viscous film. In some embodiments, the first chemical includes methyl ethyl ketone (MEK), and the second chemical includes dimethylacetamide (DMA). In other embodiments, the first chemical includes cyclohexanone, and the second chemical includes dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO). The film is coated onto a wafer and then flashed off during the coating. Thereafter, the film is baked. The second chemical is removed during the baking. Thereafter, the film is annealed. In some embodiments, the annealing is performed using an annealing temperature in a range from about 135 degrees Celsius to about 145 degrees Celsius and an annealing duration in a range from about 17 hours to about 19 hours. The film has a ? phase crystallinity greater than 50% after the annealing.
