  • Patent number: 5479932
Abstract: Apparatus for effectively and accurately monitoring the health of an infant is realized by simultaneously detecting large motor movement, heart beat and respiration of the infant, and sounding an alarm when an exacting combination of all three signals is not sensed. This integrated combination effectively eliminates false alarms inherent in prior art monitors. Preferably, a passive sensor is placed under, but not in direct contact with, a child for generating a voltage in proportion to the movement of the child. This signal is amplified, filtered and analyzed for the presence of large motor movement, heart beat and respiration. An alarm signal is sounded when all three are not present in the signal.
