  • Publication number: 20070148672
Abstract: The present invention provides a system and method of facilitating animal propagation. In one embodiment, the present invention utilizes data relating to the traits or characteristics of existing animals organized into various cow-bull pairs to predict the degree that those traits or characteristics will be exhibited by the offspring of one or more of the animal pairs. Such data is utilized to calculate the likelihood and/or probability that a pair of animals will produce offspring having one or more desirable characteristics. The present invention allows the user to enter preferences regarding one or more offspring traits. In one embodiment, the user may prioritize one or more traits such that greater weight is given to certain traits during calculation. Traits may also be maximized, minimized or optimized in order to address the needs of each individual user. Results may also be displayed and ranked according to one or more user preferences.

  • Patent number: 4520104
Abstract: An improved process for the continuous production of butanol by fermentation of carbohydrates with C. acetobutylicum is disclosed. This process combines continuous inoculum production at a high dilution rate and cycling the fermentation broth through a material which adsorbs butanol whereby a vigorous cell population is maintained in the fermentation reactor for extended periods of time.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: November 18, 1982
Date of Patent: May 28, 1985
    Assignee: CPC International Inc.
Inventors: Robert E. Heady, Jeffrey R. Frankiewicz
  • Patent number: 4487832
Abstract: A novel method for making n-butyl butyrate is disclosed. This method comprises passing a fermentation medium containing solvent-producing cells of C. acetobutylicum through a bed of activated carbon followed by desorbing the n-butyl butyrate from the carbon.

  • Patent number: 3957587
Abstract: Process for the production of xylose (dextrose) isomerase by means of a mutant strain of Streptomyces that proliferates in a culture medium that may be free of xylose. The xylose (dextrose) isomerase enzyme is therefore constitutive rather than induced.

  • Patent number: 3956065
Abstract: Process of enzymatically converting glucose to fructose wherein a glucose-containing solution is passed, under specific conditions, through a bed composed of an immobilized glucose isomerase in a fine, particulate form and non-porous beads or granular inert material such as polystyrene beads. The porous beads and granular inert material comprise between 40% and about 75% of the bed by volume. The bead's presence exerts a buoyant effect which prevents bed packing and promotes desirable flow patterns with no observable channelling. This helps to minimize the formation of undesired or undesirable carbohydrates such as psicose.

  • Patent number: 3941655
Abstract: Levulose-bearing syrups are produced by passing a dextrose solution through a column or bed of an immobilized dextrose isomerase enzyme preparation. The useful life of the enzyme preparation is extended by conducting the isomerization initially at a low operating temperature, then increasing the temperature of operation after an initial decrease in enzyme activity has been observed. Also disclosed is an improved immobilized xylose isomerase enzyme preparation which is prepared by contacting a solution of xylose isomerase with particulate basic magnesium carbonate. The novel immobilized enzyme preparation is useful in enzymatically isomerizing dextrose solutions to levulose-bearing syrups.
