  • Publication number: 20070141055
Abstract: The invention relates to methods and compositions for the manufacture and use of novel hydroxy apatite (HA)-calcium binding protein (CaBP) complexes (CaBP-HA complex) that are useful as antigen preparations for immunological assays for the diagnosis, prognosis, and monitoring of mammalian diseases. The CaBP-HA complexes may be manufactured using synthetic HA that is subjected to serum proteins or by harvesting nanobacteria (NB), also called calcifying nano-particles (CNP), from a mammal. The hydroxy apatite is prepared by incubation with appropriate proteins resulting in conformational changes in said bound proteins. Secondary conformational changes occur when said CaBP-HA complex is subjected to enzymes such as transglutaminase thereby creating covalently bound neoepitopes. The CaBP-HA complex may also contain lipopolysaccharide binding protein (LPSBP) providing for anti-CaBP-LPSBP-HA antibodies detection indicative of disease.

  • Publication number: 20070134814
Abstract: Disclosed are methods and compositions for detecting, analyzing and assessing the significance of calcifying nano-particles. The disclosed methods and compositions generally involve detecting one or more proteins present on a calcifying nano-particle. It has been discovered that particular proteins become associated with calcifying nano-particles. This association provides a means for detecting, classifying, analyzing, categorizing, and assessing calcifying nano-particles. Detecting particular proteins while associated with a calcifying nano-particle can be used to indicate the presence and type of calcifying nano-particle, which can be used to indicate the presence of, or disposition to, diseases or conditions. Multiple proteins on a calcifying particle can be detected. The presence or absence of particular proteins and the pattern of the presence and absence of particular proteins can be used to indicate the presence and type of calcifying nano-particle.

  • Patent number: 6706290
Abstract: Nanobacteria contribute to pathological calcification in the human and animal body, including diseases such as kidney stones, salivary gland stones, dental pulp stones and atherosclerosis. The present invention provides methods for sterilizing articles contaminated with nanobacteria. The present invention also provides methods of treating patients infected with nanobacteria. In particular, the present invention provides a method for preventing the recurrence of kidney stones in a patient that has suffered from kidney stones, comprising administration of an antibiotic, a bisphosphonate, or a calcium chelator, either alone or in combination, in an amount effective to inhibit or prevent the growth and development of nanobacteria.

  • Patent number: 5942288
Abstract: Described is a fiber glass mat composition comprising a fiber glass matrix bonded with fire retardant melamine resin binder composition capable of forming a nonwoven mat having at least 27% by weight nitrogen (N) in the dry, but uncured resin. Also described is a method of making a fire retardant nonwoven fiber glass mat comprising the steps of providing an aqueous melamine based resin binder; applying the binder to fiber glass; and recovering a fire retardant fiber glass mat, wherein the mat has at least 27% by weight N in the dry, but uncured resin wherein the ratio of resin in the mat to N content of the resin does not exceed about 0.6.

  • Patent number: 5462642
Abstract: A method of producing a nonwoven fiber glass mat that contains discrete areas which are of different construction than the remainder of the mat. The permeable forming screen onto which a fibrous aqueous slurry is deposited is of a different structure in areas corresponding to the discrete areas of the mat so as to restrict the flow of water through those areas. Less fiber is deposited in those areas, resulting in the discrete areas being comprised of a thinner mat. The orientation of fibers within the discrete areas can be controlled by correlating the restricted flow of slurry in these areas to the flow of slurry necessary to cause this condition.

  • Patent number: 5309609
Abstract: An improved spring clip retainer for a telescopic coupling such as the coupling between a fuel filter and a fuel line. The retainer comprises a first pair of opposed spring fingers which grasp and hold the male portion of the coupling and a second pair of opposed spring fingers which grasp and hold a longitudinally spaced portion of the female coupling element. The second set of fingers are longer than the first and are provided with a self-aiming, one-way latch which is readily operated by squeezing the longer fingers toward one another after association with the small diameter female fuel line coupling component. Through this operation the retainer can be effectively permanently associated with a fuel line subassembly which is joined to the fuel filter in a subsequent operation.

  • Patent number: 5091240
Abstract: A combination of hot melt and water-based adhesives (solution resin or latex) is particularly advantageous for bonding fibers together to form a layer and for bonding that layer to an adjoining layer. The water-based adhesive, which need not be crosslinkable, provides fiber-to-fiber bonding through the layer of fibers, while the hot melt adhesive bonds the layer of fibers to the adjoining layer. In preferred embodiments, the layer of fibers is moisture absorbent and formed of wood pulp, cotton, rayon, or cellulose triacetate fibers (possibly with the addition of a small amount of thermoplastic fibers to increase bulk); the fibers can be reprocessed fibers of irregular lengths; the water-based adhesive is a latex, non-crosslinkable adhesive; the adjoining layer is permeable to moisture and made of a nonwoven polyolefin, rayon, polyester, or blend thereof; a moisture-barrier layer (e.g.

  • Patent number: 4822332
Abstract: An applicator for delivering an object, such as a menstrual tampon, to a cavity, such as the vaginal canal, which applicator is not much longer than the object when delivered to the user, is provided. The applicator is a unitary injection blow-molded device which includes a first tubular section housing the object, a second collapsible and extensible corrugated tubular section abutting the first section, and a third tubular section abutting the second section and serving primarily as a handle. An integral pusher member is formed in the interior of the applicator attached to the inner wall of the third section, and is biased to assume a position along the centerline of the applicator. The applicator is delivered to the user in a collapsed state, with the pusher alongside the object in the first section. The user extends the object by pulling on the first and third sections, withdrawing the pusher from the first section so that it aligns itself behind the center of the object.
