  • Patent number: 6550578
Abstract: A stepstool (20) configured for mounting on a tire (22) includes a support frame configured to rest against an outer surface (40) of the tire (22). An outside lower platform (34) and an outside upper platform (36) are attached to the support frame. A first retaining bar (114) is configured to rest against an inner surface (42) of the tire (22), and first linking members (104 and 106) link the first retaining bar (114) to the support frame. The stepstool (20) further includes an inside platform (38) configured to releasably couple to the first retaining bar (114) and reside proximate the inner surface (42) of the tire (22). A second retaining bar (132) is configured to rest against the outer surface (40) of the tire, and second linking members (128 and 130) link the second retaining bar (132) to the inside platform (38). The first and second linking members are directed over an upper circumferential surface (122) of the tire (22) to hold the stepstool (22) securely on the tire (22).

  • Patent number: 6098754
Abstract: The pneumatic greasing system for the fifth wheel of a semitrailer uses compressed air tanks to power a pneumatic grease pump delivering grease from a reservoir mounted behind the cab of the tractor to the fifth wheel. The pump is actuated by an electronic switch mounted on the gear shift lever controlled by the operator of the tractor-trailer rig, the switch energizing a solenoid mounted at the pump and reservoir. The grease is delivered to a grease manifold mounted at the anterior portion of the lower plate of the fifth wheel, from which it is distributed to multiple compartments constituting a grease pan installed on the bottom of the lower plate. Air pressure forces the grease from the compartments of the grease pan through a plurality of countersunk orifices in the lower plate. Longitudinal and rotational movement of the bearing surfaces of the upper and lower plates ensure a uniform distribution of grease in the fifth wheel.

  • Patent number: 6044928
Abstract: A stepstool (20) configured for mounting on a vehicular tire (22) includes a support frame configured to rest against an outer surface (38) of the tire (22). The support frame includes a first upright support (24), a second upright support (26), and a third support (28) coupled to each of the first and second upright supports (24, 26). A platform (30) is attached to the support frame. A retaining bar (36) is configured to rest against an inner surface (40) of the tire (22). Chains (32 and 34) link the retaining bar (36) to each of the first and second upright supports (24, 26). The chains (32 and 34) are directed over an upper circumferential surface (83) of the tire and wrap around the upper circumferential surface (83) to hold the platform (30) securely on the tire (22).

  • Patent number: 5546421
Abstract: A communications station (10) couples a bidirectional input-output signal path (16') to two unidirectional signal paths; a transmit signal path (12') and a receive signal path (14'), using a controllable hybrid (20). A feedback control system in the station minimizes the amount of transmit signal appearing at the receive output port (24) of the hybrid (20). The control system spreads the spectrum of a pilot signal (40) by means of a biphase modulator (46) and a pseudorandom generator (42) to produce a spread-spectrum pilot, which is added, in a summer 30, to the transmit signal. The spread-spectrum pilot signal covers the bandwidth of the information signal, and is reflected in an amount and with a phase which depends upon the relative impedance presented to the hybrid (20) by the bidirectional signal path (16').
