  • Patent number: 6058881
Abstract: A demand type watering valve for the watering of birds and small animals in which the output water quantity varies with the level of input force imposed by the seeker of water. A spring biased metering pin extends upwardly in a body passage to the water inlet while a tubular actuator stem extends downwardly dependent in the body passage from an upper engagement with the metering pin to an accessible length beyond the termination of said body. In response to a light demand force, the actuator stem is displaced to rock sideways and permit limited water entry for the water to enter internally of said stem while a greater demand force causes a greater stem displacement to permit concomitant parallel water flow about the exterior of said stem.

  • Patent number: 5003927
Abstract: A demand type animal watering valve that is operable by animal mouth actuation of an exposed valve stem. The bulk of the valve including the valve body is comprised of a relatively inexpensive and relatively soft composition that if unprotected would be potentially chewable by the animal when watering. For protecting the soft material at least about the mouth engageable portion of the valve there is provided a mouthguard sleeve of significantly harder chew-resistant metal such as stainless steel. The sleeve is secured to the relatively soft body material in a manner preventing removal separation of the sleeve by the animal. Also disclosed are optional embodiments of a filter screen/orifice plug unit removably insertable in the valve. One embodiment includes a fine mesh screen secured to the inlet side of the plug in which are disposed a plurality of selectively openable parallel orifices for variably setting the desired flow rate of the valve.

  • Patent number: 4573433
Abstract: This animal watering valve is designed to enable the animal to obtain its own water within its mouth, by biting on it. Primarily, the valve includes a main body which is threaded into a water source pipe, and the main body includes an activating shaft or stem in its bore, which is normally seated by a coil spring. It further includes a rivet which acts as a trigger for urging the shaft or stem angularly off of its seat, to enable water to flow into the mouth of the animal.

  • Patent number: 4402343
Abstract: A valve body has a larger bore and a smaller bore defining a transverse valve seat; and a plug closes the larger bore, the inner end confronting the valve seat and defining a radially enlarged valve chamber. The valve closure member comprises an enlarged head seating on the valve seat and an integral stem projecting from the discharge end of the valve. The plug has an axial recess opening toward the valve seat; and a control member comprises an enlarged head and an integral stem. A helical biasing spring is received over the control member stem; and the stem and spring are received within the plug recess to permit free axial movement over the valve closure member and free compression and expansion of the spring. The control member, which engages the closure member head to seat the closure member, has small lateral clearance with associated parts to severely restrict lateral movement of the control member and of the spring.

  • Patent number: 4231174
Abstract: A flat rectangular envelope has at least one wall which is transparent; the envelope in one form being fabricated from plastic film. Elongated mounting margins are formed along two side edges of the envelope, each having longitudinally spaced mounting apertures to enable the mounting of the envelope on a suitable support. The mounting apertures may be spaced to enable securing either edge of the envelope in a three-ring binder, or the envelope may be secured to other supports by means of ties. The mounting margins include some reinforcing means for improving the tear resistance of the mounting apertures. A plastic zipper is provided to close the top openable edge of the envelope. One wall may be formed from a magnetic material enabling the mounting of magnetic markers on the exterior of the transparent wall. The envelope may be secured to a rigid mounting board with coacting cords, which enable the envelope to be flip-flopped on the board without removal from the board.
