  • Patent number: 11666678
Abstract: A new diffuser for essential oils and the like is rendered more compact by integrating the entire diffuser into a form of cap threaded to fit a bottle operating as a reservoir. The motor and pump system are integrated into a package sleeved inside a housing that then receives in a silo beside the pump and motor the entire reservoir and diffuser system. Simplified control algorithms provide a limited set of buttons that are more intuitive by which a user need only define total time of operation, some level of intensity of scent, and an indication of the comparative size of the space to be conditioned by the diffused scent.

  • Patent number: 11541143
Abstract: A compact diffuser integrates an atomizer and droplet separator into a surrounding sleeve, threadable to a bottle neck as an assembly. The assembly fits into a base, housing a motor and air pump, sealing the sleeve to a silo in the housing. Controls set time span of intermittent operation, intervening delay, and volumetric flow rate. The assembly pops into (and out of) the top end of a silo in the base, registering (aligning) circumferentially and axially to seal an air path from the pump to the atomizer. Access for applying force to the bottom of the assembly facilitates popping out the assembly when empty, or to simply change scent by changing out the assembly. Entire assemblies may be stored to simplify exchange and reduce chances for spills from reservoirs.

  • Patent number: 11065358
Abstract: Silencing and separation in a cold-air, essential-oil, diffuser apparatus and method pass flow through a channel having comparatively high aspect ratios of length to thickness and width to thickness. Curved, tapered, non-parallel, and quasi random surfaces reduce probability and power of resonant frequencies. Offsetting flow through a channel is followed by impingement against an obstructing surface, redirection elsewhere within a drift (separation) chamber, and exiting through a smaller, and differently oriented exit port. Silencing is improved by changes of cross-sectional area creating high-pass and low pass acoustic filters, changes of direction, and absorption of acoustic energy in fluid-droplet-laden air.

  • Publication number: 20210138102
Abstract: An unheated, essential oil diffuser relies on a pressurized air stream to educt oil from a reservoir, followed by separators including separation chambers and an annular channel. The latter is a long channel having an aspect ratio (L/d) of from about 10 to about 120, for length L and thickness d. Thickness d is effective diameter, also known as hydraulic diameter (4 times c.s. area, divided by “wetted” or exposed perimeter), and may be from about 25 to about 100 thousandths of an inch (0.6 to 2.5 mm) across the thin passage, with a target range of from about 55 to 75 mils (0.7 to 1 mm). This geometry provides laminar flow at Reynolds number values less than a few hundred for virtually its complete distance of from under one inch (25 mm) to over three inches (76 mm).

  • Publication number: 20190290798
Abstract: A reservoir containing an essential oil feeds to an eductor injecting a jet forming a plume of air entraining oil droplets. A series of drift chambers act as velocity reducers to alternately slow the flow droplets with entry, and then reaccelerate them upon exit through an exit channel. A micro cyclone separator operates between at least two of the drift chambers, exposing the flow to circumferential direction and centripetal acceleration driving comparatively larger droplets out of the flow away from comparatively finer droplets sufficiently small to remain with the flow of air. Separation of comparatively larger droplets, effectively eliminates “spitting” of liquids that might or rapid drift onto surrounding surfaces.

  • Publication number: 20190290797
Abstract: A modular, integrated, combination air purification and aroma diffuser includes a UV and catalytic oxidation germicidal cell and multiple filtrations as pre-treatment of air diffusing essential oils or other liquids as ultra-fine droplets entrained in airflow into enclosed, habitable spaces. Liquid microbicide, insecticide, fumigant, or aroma therapy is kept cleaner by eradication of microbes. Comparatively larger droplets are separated out and recycled to the reservoir after initial atomization. An electrical module, between a purifier and filters upstream and a diffuser downstream, includes a pump, a fan, and a controller for both. Staged, double-eduction, triple-separation processes include a micro-cyclone for quiet, well diffused flow of ultra-fine droplets.

  • Publication number: 20190134246
Abstract: A rechargeable, micro-diffuser apparatus and method provide a housing having a cage to hold an absorbent solid. The cage may include slots admitting air over absorbent beads. An aromatic liquid may drip or pour through an opening to the beads, which then absorb or adsorb that liquid. Ambient air evaporates or otherwise diffuses the aromatic liquid as aromatic vapor into surrounding air. The apparatus operates with no open container of bulk liquid, but only interstitially held liquid within polymeric molecules of absorbent beads or spread over an adsorbent surface.
