Patent number: 8241245Abstract: A co-axial catheter assembly including a first lumen having a first distal end and a first proximal end, and a second lumen having a second distal end and a second proximal end. The second lumen extends co-axially with the first lumen, wherein the second lumen is at least partially disposed within the first lumen and the second distal end extends distally of the first distal end. A catheter hub provides for fluid connections of the inner and outer lumens with respective extension tubes, and includes spacers that maintain the proximal end of the inner lumen concentrically within the proximal end of the outer lumen and the distal end of the inner lumen concentrically within the distal end of the outer lumen, respectively. Methods of manufacturing and of inserting the catheter are also disclosed.Type: GrantFiled: October 8, 2004Date of Patent: August 14, 2012Assignee: Medical Components, Inc.Inventors: David F. Markel, Earl W. Voorhees, Jr., Anthony J. Madison, Timothy Schweikert, Mahase Nardeo, Mark Fisher

Patent number: 7918817Abstract: A multiple catheter assembly (100) including a first catheter (110) constructed from a first material and having a first proximal end region (112), a first distal end region (114) terminating in a first distal tip (116), and an outer surface (120) defining at least a first lumen (122) extending longitudinally therethrough between a first distal (118) and a first proximal (111) opening. The first proximal end region (112) is integrally connected to an extension tube (320) constructed from a second material. A second catheter (130) is constructed from the first material and having a second proximal end region (132), a second distal end region (134) terminating in a second distal tip (136), and a second outer surface (140) defining at least a second lumen (142) extending longitudinally therethrough between a second distal (138) and a second proximal (131) opening. The second proximal end region (132) is integrally connected to an extension tube (350) constructed from the second material.Type: GrantFiled: October 27, 2004Date of Patent: April 5, 2011Assignees: Medical Components, Inc., TwinCath LLCInventors: Donald A. Patent number: 7914513Abstract: A multi-lumen catheter assembly with a two-piece hub is disclosed. The catheter includes a distal portion having a plurality of catheter lumens, wherein each of the plurality of catheter lumens includes a distal tip and a proximal lumen portion. The distal portion further includes a distal hub portion slidably disposed over the proximal lumen portion, wherein the distal hub portion includes a pivoting locking member. The catheter assembly further includes a proximal portion having a plurality of catheter extensions, wherein each of the plurality of catheter extensions fluidly communicates with at least one of the plurality of catheter lumens. The proximal portion also includes a proximal hub portion having a locking receiver, wherein the pivoting locking member is releasably engaged with the locking receiver.Type: GrantFiled: July 27, 2005Date of Patent: March 29, 2011Assignee: Medical Components, Inc.Inventor: Earl W. Publication number: 20090292248Abstract: A method for inserting a multiple catheter assembly into a patient. The assembly (100) includes a first catheter (110) having a first distal end region (114) and an outer surface (120) defining at least a first lumen (122). A second catheter (130) has a second distal end region (134) and a second outer surface (140) defining at least a second lumen (142) The outer surfaces (120,140) of the first and second catheters are releasably joined by a splittable bond (180) for allowing the first and second distal tips (116,136) to be at least partially longitudinally split from each other. The method includes the steps of separating the first and second distal end regions, and inserting the first and second distal end regions in juxtaposed relation to each other through the incision and into the area to be catheterized.Type: ApplicationFiled: August 4, 2009Publication date: November 26, 2009Applicants: Medical Components, Inc., TwinCath, LLCInventors: Donald A.
