  • Patent number: 6911407
Abstract: Disclosed is an absorbent article useful for the following purposes without limitation: as a bed pad, a baby changing pad, a bib, a table cloth, or a painter's drop cloth. The absorbent article includes a vapor-permeable liquid-impermeable bottomsheet having an interior surface and an exterior surface, an absorbent structure positioned adjacent the interior surface, and a non-adhesive skid-resistant coating applied to the exterior surface such that the bottomsheet remains vapor-permeable after application of the coating. The non-adhesive skid resistant coating improves the ability of the absorbent article to remain in position without leaving residue on surfaces while leaving the absorbent article breathable.

  • Patent number: 6783826
Abstract: The disclosure describes a commode liner made from a first and a second opposing member defining a top with an opening, a bottom, and a pair of opposing sides. The pair of opposing sides includes a separation distance D, which varies from the top to the bottom, and the distance D is larger at the top than at the bottom. The opposing members can be formed from a latently dispersible barrier composite material including an exposed low strength barrier component, an internal water sensitive layer, and a water permeable, inextensible, water dispersible support layer. When exposed to aqueous conditions on the barrier side, the composite prevents it from passing through to the other layers. When exposed to aqueous conditions on the opposite side, the commode liner readily disperses and may be disposed of by flushing in a toilet, for example. Examples of barrier layers include polylactic acid. Examples of water sensitive layers include polyvinyl alcohol.

  • Publication number: 20040126585
Abstract: A water dispersible commode/bedpan liner. The liner is a film useful as a flushable commode or bedpan liner. The liner may be positioned before use and then placed in a toilet afterwards where it is flushed. The film is a two layer co-extruded film. At least half of the film is a predominately water soluble polymer. No more than half of the film is a skin fluid barrier layer of an extrudable polymer that may be biodegradable. The film also includes a chemical that is activated by tap water to help cause the film to break apart.

  • Publication number: 20030116575
Abstract: Disclosed is a container useful for containing bodily wastes such as a sample bag, urine bag, vomit bag, commode liner and the like. The container has a receiving portion, a collection portion, and an anti-splash member disposed between the receiving portion and the collection portion. The anti-splash member directs the flow of bodily wastes into the collection portion while restricting the flow of bodily wastes in the opposite direction thereby minimizing or reducing spilling of bodily wastes while transporting the container for disposal. The container is especially adapted to be flushable by a toilet.

  • Publication number: 20020124313
Abstract: The present invention provides a holder for securing an absorbent article comprising a flexible sheet having less than four pouches designed to secure at least one edge of an outer perimeter of the absorbent article. In one embodiment, there are two pouches substantially parallel to each other and extending transversely across the flexible sheet, the two pouches designed to secure opposing edges of an outer perimeter of the absorbent article. In one embodiment, the absorbent article is a bed pad, chair pad, or the like, made from a liner, absorbent and film. Use of less than four pouches, such as pouch pairs, provides an easy method for keeping absorbent articles in their intended locations, which in turn reduces wrinkles and slippage. As a result, the likelihood of a patient developing bed sores is reduced and the effectiveness of the absorbent article is increased, thus improving patient comfort.

  • Patent number: 5575785
Abstract: An absorbent article includes first and second liquid containment beams that are moveable relative to a moisture barrier. In particular embodiments, leakage barriers formed of a liquid impermeable material are bonded to the moveable containment beams to impede lateral movement of liquid. In other embodiments, the moisture barrier is formed of a breathable material and the leakage barriers are positioned between the containment beams and moisture barrier to minimize condensation on an exterior surface of the moisture barrier. Desiccant particles may also be included adjacent the moisture barrier to further minimize condensation.

  • Patent number: 5558659
Abstract: Absorbent articles of the present invention are specifically adapted for the adult male anatomy. The articles include a moisture barrier having a length measured between front and back ends of less than about 46 centimeters. A liner is bonded to the moisture barrier sandwiching an absorbent assembly therebetween. The moisture barrier is gathered along each of its side edges between forward and rearward terminal points. The forward terminal points are spaced from the front end of the moisture barrier by at least about 7 centimeters, and the rearward terminal points spaced from the back end of the moisture barrier by less than about 5 centimeters. Elasticized containment flaps disposed on the liner extend longitudinally toward the front end to a position at least about 16 centimeters from the back end of the moisture barrier. The moisture barrier is also gathered along its back end.

  • Patent number: 5042088
Abstract: The clothing shield is intended to protect clothing against body stains, such as underarm stains, and generally comprises a liquid-pervious bodyside liner, a liquid-impervious outer cover, and an absorbent medium between the liner and outer cover. The exposed side of the outer cover has a masking surface thereon that visually masks the clothing shield through the article of clothing. A method is also provided for making the shield.

  • Patent number: 4973325
Abstract: An absorbent article is disclosed having a pair of absorbents positioned adjacent to each other. Each absorbent has a first surface facing the body of a user and a second surface aligned opposite to the first surface. A fluid-impermeable baffle is positioned adjacent to the second surface of each absorbent and extends upward around a portion of the absorbents. A fluid permeable cover is positioned adjacent to the first surface of each absorbent and can be sealed to the baffle. The absorbent article further includes a transfer member for facilitating movement of body fluids from the cover downward and outward to distant areas of the absorbents. The transfer member is positioned above, between and below at least a portion of the absorbents and is coaxially aligned the the longitudinal central axis of the article. The transfer member is also spaced apart from the periphery of the absorbents.
