Abstract: Aspects describe using mobile device telemetry data with location reports from a small fraction of reporting devices to pre-compute a set of categorizing formulas that can quickly assign devices of unknown latitude, longitude, and/or altitude to specific values of latitude, longitude, and/or altitude. The described aspects perform a large percentage of complicated calculations in advance of a particular device of unknown location presenting itself on the radio network. Thus, the categorizing formulas can be applied to categorize the device into a particular range of latitude, longitude, and/or altitude with minimal delays. Various aspects relate to enabling an efficient and highly scalable implementation of mobile device advertising, social networking, and other applications that may reply in rapid, real time delivery of “WITHIN” or NOT WITHIN a “fenced-in” region or geography or shape of space.

A disclosed example apparatus to process an element management system (EMS) query message includes a receiver to receive the EMS query message from a managed network element, the EMS query message being redirected from an EMS server, a responder to select a pre-determined response to the EMS query message and discard EMS information contained in the EMS query message, wherein the pre-determined response is to delay the managed network element from resending the EMS query message to the EMS server for a time period, and a transmitter to send the pre-determined response to the managed network element.

Abstract: A method and apparatus for automatically collecting data from a remote location includes placing a remote appliance at each remote location. The remote appliance establishes network connections by making a scheduled local telephone call to the local ISP to communicate with a central server. Virtual networks are established for the purposes of retrieving data from a remote location, consolidating data from several remote locations. The system permits the establishment of simultaneous multiple shared virtual networks using a common central server.
