Abstract: There is provided a shaving apparatus comprising an external cutting element and an internal cutting element cooperating with and drivable relative to the external cutting element with a reciprocating movement. The internal cutting element is secured to the external cutting element by means of a connecting element which is flexible in the direction of driving and is rigid in directions extending substantially transversely of the direction of driving. The external cutting element is formed as a U-shaped part from a sheet material. The internal cutting element together with the connecting element constitutes a strip also made of a sheet material and positioned between the legs of the U-shaped part. The internal cutting element is situated at the end of the strip near the transverse portion of the U-shaped part; and the other end of the strip is connected to the legs of the U-shaped part.

Abstract: The disclosure relates to a shaving apparatus having a shear plate with hair entry apertures and a drivable cutting unit with at least one cutting element provided with a cutting edge. Owing to the presence of the shear plate a shaving apparatus of this type does not allow the hairs to be shaved as closely to the skin as a shaving apparatus without such a shear plate, where the cutting element is in direct contact with the skin. In order to eliminate this drawback a construction is proposed in which the cutting element is provided with a hair pulling element which leads in the direction of the driving and which is immobile relative to the cutting element.

The cutting unit comprises a cutting member having a circular central body provided with circumferentially arranged cutters and lead cutters respectively associated with and movable relative to the cutters. Each lead cutter is secured to the central body of the cutting member by a resilient connecting arm, the inner end portion of which extends substantially radially with respect to the cutting unit axis and undergoes torsion-loading by reason of the movement of the lead cutter away from the shear plate, the lead cutter being connected eccentrically to such inner end portion. The torsion-loading is elastically opposed in each instance.

The cutting unit comprises a cutting member having a circular central body and a hair-pulling member having a circular central portion. Cutters extend from the central body circumference toward the shear plate, with each cutter having a guide wall. A lead cutter is associated with and movable along the guide wall of each cutter, the lead cutter being connected to the central portion circumference by a V-shaped elastically deformable arm. One link of the connecting arm is secured to the central portion and extends tangentially therefrom; and the other limb is connected to the lead cutter. Each connecting arm is elastically deformed so as to urge its lead cutter against the guide wall of the associated cutter.
