Patent number: 4630587Abstract: The injection pump includes a pump cylinder, a pump piston moving into it and a hydraulic device for adjusting the instant of injection. The adjusting device has an adjusting cylinder, which is directed parallel to the pump cylinder and is accommodated in the housing of the injection pump, and adjusting piston and a restoring spring and adjusts a control sleeve, which opens the pump piston provided with at least one control recess in the longitudinal direction of the pump piston. This orientation and disposition of the adjusting cylinder effects a space-saving and inexpensive design of the injection pump and improves the precision of adjustment. The adjusting piston and the control sleeve may be directed coaxially and embodied as a single component, as a result of which a further space saving and increase in adjustment precision are attained.Type: GrantFiled: October 4, 1982Date of Patent: December 23, 1986Assignee: Robert Bosch GmbHInventors: Gerald Hofer, Eberhard Hofmann, Helmut Laufer, Francois Rossignol, Reinhard Schwartz, Max Straubel, Raymond Tissot

Patent number: 4590903Abstract: A fuel injection apparatus for definite pilot and main injection in internal combustion engines. A hydraulic auxiliary pump is supplied via a pressure line with fuel from a high-pressure injection pump, which fuel reaches a main injection nozzle and simultaneously drives the hydraulic auxiliary pump. The hydraulic auxiliary pump contains a differential piston comprising a reservoir piston and a pilot injection piston with different diameters and with a spring prestressing such that between the end of supply of the pilot injection and the onset of supply of the main injection, an injection-free spacing stroke (DH) which can be predetermined by means of mechanical stops results, during which spacing stroke (DH) the reservoir piston by retracting further, receives the supply quantity which is pumped during the injection interval by the high-pressure injection pump.Type: GrantFiled: August 24, 1984Date of Patent: May 27, 1986Assignee: Robert Bosch GmbHInventors: Eberhard Hofmann, Helmut Pfeifle, Reinhard Schwartz, Helmut Tschoeke

Patent number: 4327699Abstract: An apparatus is proposed for the open-loop control of the composition of the operating mixture to be introduced into the combustion chambers of an internal combustion engine. In this apparatus, the dispensing of the aspirated air quantity is effected by means of an aspirated air throttle device, whose displacement complementarily adjusts the cross section of an exhaust gas recirculation line which discharges into the intake system downstream from this throttle device. The opening of the aspirated air throttle device in order to increase the quantity of aspirated air is effected by means of a control pressure delivered to a servomotor, counter to the force of a restoring spring. The control pressure is obtained from the comparison of the actual quantity of aspirated air with the fuel injection quantity. The initial pressure for establishing the control pressure is the supply pressure of a supply pump supplying the fuel metering device.Type: GrantFiled: September 19, 1980Date of Patent: May 4, 1982Assignee: Robert Bosch GmbHInventors: Karl Reiff, Eberhard Hofmann, Josef Guntert

Patent number: 4273088Abstract: An apparatus for setting the angular relationship between rotating driving, and driven members in the injection pump drive of an internal combustion engine. The driving member and the driven member have a toothed portion of which at least one is a helical toothed portion, whereby the toothed portions are coupled to each other by a coupler member having toothed portions which mesh with the toothed portions of the driving and driven members. At least one of the toothed portions of the coupler member is configured as a helical portion and is hydraulically displaceable with respect to the other toothed portions. This hydraulic displacement is controlled by a centrifugal governor having flyweights. The flyweights displace a valve member against the force of at least one spring in an rpm-dependent manner to effect the rpm-dependent adjustment of the instant of injection. In addition to the rpm-dependent displacement, a load-dependant displaceability, can be superimposed.Type: GrantFiled: February 22, 1979Date of Patent: June 16, 1981Assignee: Robert Bosch GmbHInventors: Eberhard Hofmann, Ernst Ritter, Heinrich Staudt
