  • Publication number: 20170057702
Abstract: A bag construction is disclosed of the type having handles and a patch for reinforcing the attachment between the handles and the walls of the bag. The exemplary reinforcement patch includes a fold-over to define a folded top edge of the patch. During construction, a patch having the folded top end is placed in registry with the two ends of the handle that are attached to the wall of the paper bag such that the top edge is generally perpendicular to the ends of the handle. The patch is then affixed over the handle and exterior surface of the bag using glue or other such permanent adhesives. According to a salient aspect, the reinforcing patches are configured to resist tearing, particularly when shear forces are applied that normally act to detach the handles away from the side of the bag.

  • Publication number: 20080277308
Abstract: A rack and T-shirt bag which may be used in combination are disclosed. The T-shirt bag includes elongated tabs which can be tied together when the bag is loaded with items. A pack of the bags can also include contact adhesive disposed between adjacent bags that will cause a successive bag to open as a lead bag is removed. The rack includes a pair of handle mounting arms for mounting a pack of T-shirt bags, the arms having an upwardly extending portion which lifts the bags and increases their perceived volume as they are being loaded. The arms also include a stopper for preventing removal of successive bags as the lead bag is removed. A side-mounted bag dispenser for mounting a second pack of T-shirt bags can be selectively attached to the rack. The dispenser includes a handle support arm which supports the bags as they are loaded.

  • Publication number: 20070084748
Abstract: A package of plastic bags, preferably T-shirt bags, is disclosed. The bags are provided in separate bundles with a predetermined number of bags in each bundle. Two thirds of each bundle is folded over the remaining one third. Pairs of bundles are placed in a box with each pair including a bundle having its edges facing one direction and an adjacent bundle with its edges facing in the opposite direction, the edges of the short portions facing each other. A section of the long portion of one of the adjacent bundles is interposed between the facing edges of the bundles. Typically, each box will contain five or ten pairs of such bundles.

  • Patent number: 6767317
Abstract: A plastic T-shirt bag comprises an extruded plastic tubular form having side gussets and a seal line at the bottom of the bag. The junctions of the inner folds of the gussets and the seal line are the weakest areas of the bottom of the bag. A reinforcement tape extends across both weakened areas and takes up the forces applied to them when the bag is loaded.

  • Patent number: 6696135
Abstract: Air cell dunnage is disclosed which collapses for shipment and is constructed to be subsequently inflated for use. The air cell dunnage is a bubble sheet containing a multiplicity of gas cells and a base layer fused to the bubble layer. The bubble layer further includes conduits interconnecting selected groups of the selected cells and a common channel extending longitudinally on the sheet in fluid communication with each of the selected groups. The conduits provide access to selected groups of gas cells for collapsing and inflating the cells for shipment and use, respectively.

  • Patent number: 6450380
Abstract: A dispenser is described for dispensing plastic bags which are wound on a hollow cylindrical core. The dispenser is an integral molded plastic device having a bottom panel and upstanding sidewalls which are biased toward each other and which include stub axles adapted to receive the opposite ends of the core on which the roll is wound. The sidewalls apply a braking force to the ends of the core. The core fits tightly onto the stub axles to provide an additional braking force in order to prevent free wheeling of the roll as the individual bags are dispensed.

  • Patent number: 6379292
Abstract: A continuous web of bags formed of a plurality of layers to be separated along a line of perforations that extends through all of the layers transverse of the web, in which at least one of the outermost layers is detached from the web at the separation line. Apparatus accomplishes this detachment in a moving web by engaging the outermost layer outer surface and exerting a force in a manner to produce the detachment from the separation line. Both the outermost upper and lower web layers can be detached at the separation line.

  • Patent number: 6279300
Abstract: Different ways are disclosed for manufacturing air cell dunnage in which the variation in thickness of the individual bubble walls is significantly reduced. In one embodiment, the bubbles are formed from a plastic sheet having regions which vary in thickness so that when these regions are vacuum formed into bubbles, they result in bubbles having an approximately uniform wall thickness. The sheets are extruded through a die which is shaped to profile the thickness of the sheet from side to side. Longitudinal profiling of the thickness is provided by means of shaping bars which move vertically with respect to the extruded sheet. The variation in wall thickness also can be reduced using flat plastic sheet by controlling the application of the vacuum to the hemispherical dies which form the bubbles. The vacuum may be applied progressively through rings of apertures from the bottom or opening of the bubble to the top or apex of the bubble.

  • Patent number: 6279806
Abstract: A dispenser is disclosed for retaining and dispensing plastic bags which are wound on a core. The dispenser is made of heavy metal wire configured to provide curved tracks in which a core can ride. The dispenser includes a separating tongue which enables a customer to dispense the bags one by one by pulling on the free end of the outermost bag. In order to prevent freewheeling, a braking surface is provided which engages the roll and retards rotation. A supplemental braking force is provided by spring elements mounted within the tracks which apply a frictional force to the ends of core. The spring elements are oriented such that the force applied to the core by the springs as the roll rotates when the bags are dispensed, causes the roll to tend to move downwardly into engagement with the braking surface. The spring elements are attached to the dispenser at a point below the braking surface. As a result, the braking force applied by the springs increases as the size of the roll decreases.

  • Patent number: 6234431
Abstract: A device for supporting a plastic bag dispenser on a pivotable supporting surface such as a European table, comprises a bracket having transverse plates, one of which is adapted to be attached to the supporting surface. The other plate has a center hole and a series of circumferential holes equally spaced around the center hole. A mounting bar is attached at one of its ends to the second plate by fasteners which extend through the center hole and one of the circumferential holes so that the relative position of the mounting bar can be varied depending on a selection of circumferential holes. A mounting plate is attached to the opposite end of the mounting bar and includes an aperture and a series of spaced openings which receives complementary projections on the plastic bag dispenser to retain the dispenser. Additional fastener means extend through the aperture and a base plate of the dispenser for securing the dispenser to the mounting plate.

  • Patent number: 6230953
Abstract: A plastic bag dispenser holds a continuous roll of bags, connected by perforated separation lines. The dispenser is provided with a tongue, which the bags are dispensed over, that engages the separation line between the bag at the end of the roll and the next bag. This begins the separation of the separation line, as well as holds the next bag behind the tongue. A finger is provided on the upstream side of the tongue, with a gap between the finger and tongue. As a bag is separated, a portion of the front edge of the next bag is held in the gap, holding the bag in position for the next user. The roll of bags rests in curved grooves in the dispenser that cause the roll to abut and frictionally engage an interior surface of the dispenser, preventing free-wheeling of the roll. The curvature of the grooves causes the component of force which creates the frictional engagement to increase as the size of the roll decreases.
