Abstract: In a multicell electric storage battery designed for central gas release, before being released into the open air the battery gases pass through a container positioned on the block casing in which the acid particles and moisture are separated from the gases as a consequence of the gases being repeatedly deflected by a series of walls placed in the path of the gases, which may be perforated if desired, and the dehumidified gases are then passed through a porous flame-protection frit. Flashback of a flame caused by external ignition of the gases is prevented by rapid burn-off of the gases in a flame extinguishing chamber preceding the frit.

Abstract: Negative sintered foil electrodes for gas-tight Ni/Cd storage batteries can be provided with a specific discharge reserve by subjecting them to a partial chemical reduction before they are installed. This is performed upon the moving, impregnated sinter tape by immersing it in or spraying it with a strongly reducing agent dissolved in water or any other solvent, preferably alkali boranate. In a subsequent drying step, the Cd so formed is permanently fixed and protected through intentional surface oxidation.

Abstract: The electrodes and separators are assembled into a plate package, which is slipped over a post extending upward from the cell housing bottom. Pole lead-through is provided in the lid, the lead-through includes a rivet and a sealing ring. The edges of the housing bottom and the tip of the post are welded to the lid to close the cell.
