Abstract: The present invention is a method and apparatus for increasing the effective contrast ratio and brightness yields for digital light valve image projectors using a variable luminance control mechanism (VLCM), associated with the projector optics, for modifying the light output and provide a correction thereto; and an adaptive luminance control module (ALCM) for receiving signals from the video input board, the adaptive luminance control module producing a signal on a VLCM bus connecting the variable luminance control mechanism and the adaptive luminance control module, the signal causing the variable luminance control mechanism to change the luminance of the light output and provide a corrected video signal for the projector.

Abstract: A display application can be configured to provide a visual indication associating a dialog box (that was not invoked for display by a user) to a user selectable source on a display screen. In such circumstances, because the dialog box was not actually invoked based on actions of by the user, the user may be unaware of how to invoke redisplay of the dialog box. The visual indication (e.g., a highlighting of a path between the dialog box and a user selectable source such as an icon) produced by the display application teaches a user of a location of the selectable source so that the user can select the selectable source at a future point in time and redisplay the window.

Abstract: A system and method for displaying instant messaging (IM) session history as time-based calendar events is presented. A messaging system logs chat sessions between users and stores them as “chat events.” When a user wishes to view previous chat sessions as time-based calendar events, the user sends a chat history request to an electronic calendar system. In turn, the electronic calendar system retrieves the chat events and formats the chat events, which are displayed on the electronic calendar for the user to view as time-based calendar events. Once displayed, the user is able to select one of the time-based calendar events in order to view the formatted chat event's details.
