  • Patent number: 4635209
Abstract: In a steam turbine control system three overspeed protection circuits (OPC) are provided, each one being identical to the others and each having a programmable digital computer in two-way data communication with a master controller, as well as with the other OPCs. Speed transducers adjacent the turbine shaft provide speed indicative signals to the respective OPCs which calculate extremely precise RPM values utilizing an adaptive filter in the derivation process.

  • Patent number: 4558569
Abstract: A steam turbine control system which includes a manual panel with pushbuttons for operator control of the steam admission valves. Each valve has its own control means and is responsive to pushbutton activation to govern its valve movement. If a pushbutton indicating valve opening or closing gets stuck, the operator pushes a pushbutton indicating opposite movement and the control means switches to a special control mode after a predetermined period of time. In the special mode valve movement stops after removal of the operator's finger pressure and valve movement is accomplished by activation of predetermined pairs of pushbuttons.

  • Patent number: 4554788
Abstract: Hydraulically operated turbine steam admission valves wherein each valve has its own microcomputer control. In the event the valve gets stuck due to possible contamination in the hydraulic system, the microcomputer control provides an oscillatory control signal to dither the valve. If the valve remains stuck after dithering action it is provided with a control signal of an initial magnitude greater than that normally required to close the valve.

  • Patent number: 4368520
Abstract: A turbine control system which includes dual controllers having microcomputer processing circuits and capable of transmitting and receiving digital information to and from a plurality of valve position control circuits, also including their own microcomputer circuitry for controlling turbine steam admission valves. An operator's panel provides for two levels of automatic control as well as a manual backup which is communicative directly with all of the valve position control circuits. Overspeed protection control as well as fast valving is provided by redundant speed control circuits.

  • Patent number: 4029951
Abstract: A digital computer system for automatically controlling a turbine power plant without operator intervention is disclosed. The system controls the turbine from rolling off turning gear, through heat soak, wide range speed control, and the megawatt loading of the generator in accordance with the on-line condition of the turbine and/or generator. The rate of change of magawatt loading as well as the rate of speed under wide range speed control is automatically controlled toward an operator entered target. The I.P. rotor thermal characteristics are determined both in axial and radial directions. The on-line generator capability is determined in load control.
