  • Patent number: 7240582
Abstract: An override device is proposed to permit the manual operation of a closure which is normally driven by an electric motor. The override device comprises a manual closure driving mechanism, such as a chain engaged around a pulley, which when operated first produces the translation of a first gear along its rotation axis until this first gear meshes with a second gear connected to the output shaft of the motor which normally drives the closure. During the translation of the first gear, a switch is tripped to safely interrupt power to the motor and a mechanism is operated to disengage the motor from the output shaft. Thereafter, further operation of the chain, and therefore further rotation of the pulley, is adapted to cause the first gear to rotate instead of translating, whereby the second gear is driven into rotation by the first gear thereby causing the rotation of the output shaft and the manual operation of the closure.

  • Patent number: 6534941
Abstract: A closure operating device comprises a control unit for controlling a power actuator operatively connected to a closure to selectively open and close the same. The control unit and the power actuator are mounted to a casing adapted to be mounted on a wall. The casing defines an interior space which is normally closed by a lid which defines itself a compartment for receiving parts of the control unit. A limit switch mechanism is mounted in the compartment for automatically interrupting power transmission to the power actuator when the closure reaches a fully open position or a fully closed position thereof. The limit switch mechanism includes a pair of switch actuators threadably engaged on a shaft. The switch actuators are normally locked against rotation by an anti-rotation member. The anti-rotation member is adapted to be independently disengaged from the switch actuators to prevent accidental displacement of one of the switch actuators while the other one is being manually adjusted.

  • Patent number: 6381903
Abstract: An auxiliary closure operating device for manually operating an intermediate shaft normally driven by a motor in order to displace a closure between open and closed positions thereof. The device comprises a manual actuator and a driving member adapted to be freely mounted on the intermediate shaft so as to form a compact auxiliary device. The driving member is axially displaceable along the intermediate shaft between a first position in which the driving member and the intermediate shaft are independently rotatable relative to one another and a second position in which the driving member is engaged with the intermediate shaft and the manual actuator to transmit a torque from the manual actuator to the intermediate shaft.

  • Patent number: 5529157
Abstract: A brake and clutch assembly mounted on an electric motor's drive shaft comprises, in succession and outwardly from the motor, a brake pad, a drive disk, a clutch plate, a pulley, a compression spring and an end cap. The drive disk includes a sleeve with the clutch plate and the pulley being slidably mounted thereon. A pin extending diametrically through the shaft lies in a diametrical V-shaped recess defined in the drive disk. The spring biases the pulley, clutch plate and disk drive towards the brake pad thereby frictionally retaining the drive disk thereagainst when the motor is not operating and preventing the components from rotating. When the motor is started, the pin climbs out of the bottom of the recess by pushing the drive disk against the spring's force thereby axially displacing slightly the disk drive away from the brake pad such that the pin rotates the drive disk which frictionally drives the clutch plate and the pulley.

  • Patent number: 5139075
Abstract: A rolling or overhead door assembly is disclosed comprising a shaft having an external thread bounded by a first and second bearing surface, a hub screwingly engaging the shaft and adapted to travel along the shaft, a first sprocket rotatably mounted on the first bearing surface and operably connected with a take-down device for unrolling a flexible door and a second sprocket mounted on the second bearing surface and operably connected with a take-up roller for rolling up the door, and abutments on opposite sides of the first and second sprocket. Upon rotation of the shaft the hub advances along the shaft and frictionally engages the first sprocket until the first sprocket and shaft rotate together and upon counter rotation of the shaft the hub advances back along the shaft and frictionally engages the second sprocket until the second sprocket and shaft rotate together.
