    Abstract: A corrugated armoring layer for a communication cable is primarily formed of an elongated strip of metal or alloy, e.g., steel, having a first side and an opposite, second side. The armoring layer is wrapped around a cable core so that first and second side edges come to abut, or slightly overlap, and then are welded either continuously or intermittently to form a seam. In the case of intermittent welding, it is preferred that only the tops or outward-facing ridges of the corrugations are welded, such as every top corrugation or every other top corrugation is welded. A conductive adhesive tape may be applied along the seam as well, if additional environmental sealing and/or electrical shielding is desired.
