  • Patent number: 7052775
Abstract: A process for producing cellulosic formed materials having high water retention capacity according to the dry-wet extrusion process by producing a solution of 5 to 20 wt.-% of cellulose in a hydrous tertiary amine oxide, extruding the solution, stretching the extrudate in a non-precipitating medium, and precipitating the formed materials in an aqueous or alcoholic precipitating bath, characterized by extruding a solution including 0.01 to 250 wt.-%, relative to cellulose, of at least one superabsorbent polymer having a grain size of ?100 ?m. The fibers, films, and composite materials being formed are remarkable for their high water retention capacity and are suitable in the production of hygiene products, baby or disposable diapers, sanitary towels, tampons, incontinence articles, absorbent patches, wound dressings, strappings, bandages, absorbent cloths, moisture-absorbing clothing, bed mattings, filter materials or filters, packaging materials, or cable sheathings.

  • Patent number: 6958429
Abstract: The invention relates to absorbent polymers based on optionally partially neutralised, monoethylenically unsaturated, acid group-carrying monomers. The surfaces of said polymers are re-cross-linked. The inventive polymers also have cyclodextrines and/or cyclodextrine derivatives which are covalently and/or ionically bonded and/or included therein.

  • Patent number: 5712316
Abstract: The present invention relates to powdery, water-swellable, cross-linked polymers having a high absorption capacity for aqueous liquids, in particular body fluids, under load, which polymers are formed of:a) 55-99.9%-wt. acid-groups-containing monomers which are neutralized to the extent of at least 50 mole-%,b) 0-40%-wt. of monomers which are copolymerizable with a),c) 0.1-5.0%-wt. of at least one cross-linking agent,d) 0-30%-wt. of a water-soluble polymer. The cations of the salts according to a) are Li.sup.+, Na.sup.+, preferably K.sup.+, Cs.sup.+, Rb.sup.+, as well as primary, secondary, and tertiary methyl ammonium ions, either alone or in combination. The polymers are manufactured in that a blowing agent based on carbon dioxide is added to the monomers, followed by polymerization, that the polymer is dried and then heated to a temperature of 100.degree.-300.degree. C. with one or several compounds which are reactive for surface cross-linkage.

  • Patent number: 5567478
Abstract: The present invention relates to a process for producing water-absorbing sheet-like materials which consist of a water-absorbent polymer and a prefabricated nonwoven fabric, wherein the prefabricated nonwoven fabric is impregnated with a solution comprising partially neutralized acrylic acid and at least one cross-linking agent and is squeezed to a certain coating amount, and the monomer solution thus applied is characterized in that the polymerization is carried out in the presence of radical initiators which cannot be activated thermally and at least one thermally activatable radical former used in addition. The additional use of a thermally activatable radical former in the polymerization results in products having a low residual monomer content, an improved water absorption under load, and a higher retention, with a production method being employed which is technically simple and economically efficient at the same time.
