    Abstract: A method, and its associated equipment, for producing synthetic gas by means of an electric arc-activated, non-catalytic burner which utilizes up to three streams of product inputs. A primary spray is heated by an electric arc formed between two electrodes. A second spray is then injected and mixed with the heated primary fluid. The resulting high-temperature, high pressure mixture is combined with a tertiary spray, an oxidant. The end product thereby produced is a synthetic gas, which becomes immediately available for combustion in furnaces, reactors, and other processes in the chemical, petroleum, and metals fabrication industries. The invention overcomes the deficiencies of existing processes.

    Abstract: An electric arc gasifier adapts to the variable chemical components of waste products by utilizing mobile and fixed electrodes and a positioning system wherein a waste is injected into a heating chamber and broken down into elemental components capable of being recycled. A primary injection is heated by an electric arc formed between two electrodes. A secondary fluid consisting of the waste and a carrier gas is then injected and mixed with the heated primary fluid. A reaction zone within the fixed electrode of the heating chamber accelerates a resulting mixture of gases, solids, and liquids into a mixing chamber, wherein the resulting high-temperature, high pressure mixture may be combined with a tertiary spray. An efficient destructive rate stemming from the high temperature plasma formed by the electric arc allows for low cost waste processing and a means for recovering high value metals.

    Abstract: An apparatus and method for tapping a reactor containing a molten fluid are disclosed. A conduit extending from the reactor is heated to a temperature which causes fluid extracted from the reactor to remain molten while in the conduit. Molten fluid is removed from the reactor by reducing the pressure in a receiving vessel attached to the conduit. As the pressure is reduced in the receiving vessel, molten fluid flows out of the reactor and into and through the conduit, discharging into the receiving vessel. The flow of molten fluid can be terminated by repressurizing the receiving vessel, thereby directing molten fluid in the conduit back into the reactor.

    Abstract: A method and apparatus for top-charging a solid waste into a molten metal bath to form a dissociation product are disclosed. The method includes introducing the waste into the molten metal bath through a refractory tube disposed in a reactor, containing the molten metal bath, through which the refractory tube extends. A gas outlet is disposed above the molten metal bath. The refractory tube has a submergible end which is immersed in the molten metal bath and which defines a lower opening at the terminal end of the refractory tube and an elevated opening, whereby a portion of the molten metal bath enters the refractory tube through the lower opening to allow the molten metal bath to remain within the refractory tube while at least partially dissociating the waste to form the dissociation product in the molten metal bath. An oxidizing agent can be directed into the molten metal bath at a rate sufficient to form an gaseous oxygenated product which is discharged from the reactor.
